Do You Talk a Good Talk?

How many times have you told yourself or someone else that you were going to get “it” done or you were going to show up? How often do you commit yourself to something important but “blow it” when it’s show time? I have a good one—How often do you tell yourself you’re going to TREAT yourself to that massage or get on that new exercise routine you committed to a year ago?

I don’t know what hurts worse, disappointing myself or letting others down and looking foolish in front of them.
I’ve been afflicted with this syndrome and whichever way I cut it–it’s not a good feeling. I would have my best plans laid out in my mind, see myself doing it, engage and convince others that it’s going to happen but when it’s time to execute, I’d fall right on my face. I was talking the talk but didn’t have the muscle developed to walk the walk.

Here are a few things I gathered (I hope they help):

1. I was secretly afraid of the unknown: whether it was success that would be a break through experience for me or an opportunity for me to stand in integrity, I didn’t know what the other side would look like. It didn’t feel safe, so I stayed in my comfort zone.

2. I was lacking Confidence in my abilities: I just didn’t believe that I had what it took to make “it” happen so I backed out. In some instances I didn’t realize that I didn’t have confidence, it was just a normal state.

3. I unconsciously saw myself as a let-down: my self-perception shaped my world and it took me a long time to see the pattern of thought that kept me trapped in this vicious cycle. What a draining energy. What a painful feeling, to constantly see yourself as a disappointment. You start off already knowing that you are not trustworthy and knowing that you will let yourself and others down.

4. I wasn’t in the HABIT of taking Break Thru Action Consistently: the truth was that I could only take myself to a certain point and without people around me to hold me accountable and push me when I couldn’t push myself–I was heading for mediocrity and more of the SAME. I was in the habit of building momentum and letting it die. I got caught in the rush of it all and didn’t know where to go from there.

I DON’T WANT THAT TO BE YOU!!!
Here are some tips to help you Walk your Talk BOLDLY and COURAGEOUSLY!

1. Pace Yourself: Pay Attention to how much you are committing yourself to.

2. Check in with yourself before you open your mouth and if you put it out there-hold yourself with high integrity and commit to honoring your word.

3. Allow yourself to look like a fool. Make a mistake sometimes. Know that playing safe is going to keep you talking and not following it up with the walking.

4. Stop telling lies to yourself and others. Get to the truth of who you are. Know that you are courageous, you have what it takes and you were born to follow through. Your follow through on commitments will free and stretch you once you get to the other side.

5. Work to Create New Habits-I know that your life is important to you. I know that you have big dreams to fulfill and that you deserve the best. But it’s not enough for me to know it. You have to change your mind set, your attitude and perception of yourself and what you deserve.
The Universe will work for and with you! But you need to create the energy and momentum. You must walk it out-no matter what it looks like.

Do not wait; the time will never be ”just right.” Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along. Napoleon Hill
