Have an interesting question you would like to pose to the Intent community? Write up a question, add a brief description, and don't forget tag your blog post QOD. It just might be featured for a future Question of the Day! In a world where we have digital cameras, phone cameras, regular cameras and government placed cameras, video cameras etc. - at every juncture our picture or video is taken. There's no escaping it unless you are camped out in the Himalayas, the middle of the Sahara or deep within the jungle in South America or off planet. Some of us are hyper-sensitive when we have our pictures taken, while others totally relish being in the spotlight. Let's face it some absolutely l-o-v-e their picture taken, and they soak in the goodness of the attention. Oftentimes there's a bundle of us that can be extremely self-critical and don't like any of the pictures taken -- ever. Just because no angle is good enough to capture "the best" of our features, or we feel shy, and anxious. The delete button on the digital camera comes in handy and can be over used! Or we find ourselves ready to tackle our relative for first dibs on the picture just after its taken just so we can have control over "if" it is good enough to be put into the family album. We moan and groan and huff and puff. Other times when we least expect it - we get this one gorgeous picture and we end up saving it for all eternity. As if.... there will never be another one good enough. Ha! Did this hyper-critical nature start in childhood or just happened over time? When I looked at my childhood pictures, I saw that I posed in a very cute way - no inhibitions. One photo of me looks like I'm in a yoga pose, belly on the floor front part of the body looking up. Even when looking at my childhood photos today - I feel warm and fuzzy inside the heart. Even though I was full in the cheeks and round in the body - I have no urge to criticize the picture of myself at that age. Isn't that interesting? It's cute, adorable and leaves you feeling really happy. Consciously looking at the photos when you were young can remind you of the freedom, beauty and innocence. I have found this reminder an easy way to accept yourself as you are. What a gift - simple and loving. Each of us are beauty full. Perfection/Imperfection is all one - in truth you are priceless artwork. We all have on days and off days, it is what it is. Choosing not to give into the urges to do harsh critical scan of yourself in a photo is an act of love. Take a deep breath in before you act out. Remind yourself of your innocence and adorableness. Self-acceptance plays such a big role in embracing who we are and how we look from moment moment. So in a world of "smile for the camera" it is great to see how comfortable we feel in our skin and body when a picture is taken of us. My question to you dear Intent members is this; Do you like how you look in a photo, snapshots or video?
