The law of attraction says that you attract into your life whatever you think about. The law of attraction has worked for me in some aspects of my life but not for other aspects that meant the most to me. Or should I say, “that meant the most to my ego.” The things I wanted from a place of love, peacefulness, and well-being came to me easily in time, without fail. When I had hopes and wishes that came from a place of fear and lack or from the need to fill a void, it came with great difficulty or not at all. Have you ever noticed that when you really, really want something and you hold on to the thought of having it for dear life it never happens, but as soon as you let it go and say, “oh well,” it comes to you? I can think of 3 such moments right now. I have a friend that really wanted to have a baby. She tried her hardest but she couldn’t get pregnant. As soon as she accepted that having a baby might not be in her future and “let go” of trying so hard, she “surprisingly” got pregnant. Why does it always happen this way? Detachment. Apparently the law of attraction only works or works best if you are truly detached from the outcome. To get a better idea of what detachment really means, read my article “Understanding Detachment.” Once you are able to detach from the outcome of having what you want, for some reason the wheels really begin to turn and it magically flows into your life. The time you spend focusing on why you can’t have what you want, complaining about why you don’t have it, and forcing it to come when, where, and how you want it, puts you in the loop of getting the same negative outcome. The key to getting it is letting go and allowing it to come to you however it can. How To Let Go I think the biggest problem we all have is trying to dictate “exactly” how we’re going to get the thing we want. Then, when it doesn’t happen “exactly” that way, we get upset or disappointed. If you really want something, you have to be fluid and open to the possibilities of how you can get it. I watched Oprah’s Master Class featuring Jay-Z and he talked about how he really wanted a record deal at the beginning of his career but none of the major record labels would sign him to a deal. Instead of getting caught up in the negativity of not getting a major record deal or thinking he wasn’t good enough, he opened up to the unthinkable possibility of starting his own record label. Instead of being stuck in the negativity loop, he embraced a different flow and he achieved much more than he’d ever imagined. This is how it’s done. Don’t be so ridged with your wants. Be open and let it flow to you the best way it can. I have another friend who is unable to have children and after trying so hard she “let go” of trying to get pregnant. However, what flowed into her life is a wonderful step-child who loves her dearly. They have such a beautiful bond that it brings tears to my eyes. Even though she wasn’t blessed to have her own child, she is surely blessed to have the child of her significant other. What if you’ve tried, then let it go, you’ve been patient, and have done all that you can but it still doesn’t come to you? In that case, maybe it really wasn’t meant for you. Something bigger and better is out there for you. However, most often it did come to you but you just didn’t realize it. For instance, my friend with the step-child, I can see the blessing she was given and while she knows it too, some where deep down inside she really wants to have her own child. In the end that’s all she sees. Finally, don’t forget the times you let it go and it comes to you but guess what? You don’t even want it anymore. How many times has this happened to you? This happens to me all the time. What about the times you got it and it was nothing like you imagined it to be? Oh boy. This just means you definitely didn’t need it in the first place. So, does the law of attraction work? Absolutely. Always. Let go and let flow.
