All of Suffolk's beaches are entirely unrestricted to dogs from October to April. But as the weather begins to warm up, you need to know the right places to go! rnDunwich Beach allows dogs all year round. It is a peaceful sand and shingle beach, dotted with fishermen huts and backed by marshland. There are occasional restrictions on the heath during nesting season, due to RSPB Minsmere being nearby. These rules do not apply to the beach. Please be conscientious and keep the dog away from the heaths at this time! In Southwold, the main pier beach may be out of bounds for your pooch, but head to Southwold denes and you'll find no restrictions. The whole stretch of lovely sandy beach to the south of the town, (and right down to Walberswick) is dog-friendly! It's good for walking, with grassy dunes and views across the estuary and, like its northern neighbor, received a Quality Coast Award. Walberswick itself welcomes dogs all year around. And if you're up near Lowestoft, which does not allow dogs on its blue flag beaches, travel up to sandy Gunton Denes which is unrestricted all year. If you're southward near Aldeburgh, note that dogs are not allowed on the beach from May to September, but that there is a mile's stretch of beach, clearly signposted, to the north of the town.
