Keswick is not only the adventure capital of the UK but also the holiday capital for dogs and their owners. Many of our self catering holiday cottages in Keswick are dog friendly whilst the shops, pubs and cafes have recognised the importance of welcoming visitors on four legs as well as two. The George Hotel is the home of the famous Cow Pie containing an entire pound of meat! An ancient coaching house, The George in Keswick was the Inn of choice for the Earl of Derwent Water on a journey to join the Jacobite rebellion, from which he never returned. The impression of the 330-year history of the Inn is indisputable, in the heavily beamed rooms full of antique objects and furniture. Dogs are welcome in the bar and on hard floors.rnSquare Orange in Keswick, as well as the best coffee in town, the Square Orange serves a good selection of continental beers, amazing pizzas and tapas. Dog friendly, board games and regular music nights.rnJava serves fabulous hot chocolate and all sorts of coffee, comfy sofas and smiley service. There is wifi here and computers upstairs – free as long as you are drinking plenty of coffee. Dog friendly inside and out.rnLakeland Pedlar has a whole food veggie café downstairs, bike shop upstairs! The menu is delicious homemade food with international influences and the Vegan Society seal of approval. Is also exclusively fair-trade tea and coffee, hot chocolate and wine. They also offer discounts to various fair-trade and veggie and vegan society members. Dogs are welcome inside. Also have fantastic fell views and loads of outdoor seating and bike parking. rnDog and Gun is THE place to go for dog owners but expect to be outnumbered on the dog to people ratio. A dog menu is available and a fresh free water bowl for each dog. The Dog & Gun is also home to the legendary hungry fell walker’s favourite, the Hungarian Goulash, bubbling away in the same pot for over 400 years. Described by the Pub Guide as Unpretentious town pub liked by locals and their dogs, homely bar with low beams and timbers, partly slate, part wood, part carpeted flooring, fine collection of striking mountain photographs, brass and brewery artefacts, half a dozen ales, all-day pubby food inc popular goulash, log fires.rnLakes Bar and Bistro is newly refurbished this year with a stylish interior matched with local slate features. Generous sized portions and a contemporary lunch and evening menu. Dogs are welcome throughout. rnLakeside Gardens is a traditional tea room has terraces seating in the garden for dog owners to enjoy. This is just a stone’s throw from the lake where your four legged friend can enjoy a splash in Derwent water or a more sedate ride on the launch. Paws, tongues and tails inside the boat at all times please. So if taking a break in the Lake District then there is plenty to go see and do to keep the whole family entertained and best of all if your booked into dog friendly Lake District Cottages, then thanks to this guide, you have no issues with trying to find somewhere to dine with your four legged friend.
