Blepharoplasty is the medical term for eyelid surgery that is done to correct sagging eyelids. As we age, the eyelids stretch and the muscles weaken. This causes the eyelids to sag, especially if they are filled with fat. Eye bags not only make you look older; they can also impair your vision. Blepharoplasty can remedy this by removing excess skin, muscle, and fat.

“The surgery usually takes one to three hours, depending on the amount and location of tissue being removed. Afterward you spend time in a recovery room, where nurses and their assistants monitor you for complications. You can leave later that day to recuperate at home,” according to experts at the Mayo Clinic.

However, like other surgical procedures, blepharoplasty has its own share of risks. These include infection, an allergic reaction to the anesthetics, dry, irritated eyes, scarring, temporary numbness of the eyelid skin, and blindness due to bleeding behind the eye. Even if everything turns out well, the results may not always meet your expectations since this will greatly depend on the skill of the surgeon. Among the “casualties” of a bad blepharoplasty are Rogers and Everret.

Country singer legend Rogers who became a star with the song “Lucille” admitted having his eyes done to get rid of wrinkles. Sadly, surgery has greatly altered the looks of this famous celebrity who is now a shadow of his former self. Rogers’ eyes look smaller and tighter as a result of the operation and he is sad because of this.

"I had so many lines coming in at the side of my eyes up here. So I went in and got my eyes done and I'm not happy about it. (The surgeon) is going to go in and fix that for me. They're too tight around the eyelids for me. It drives me crazy. If we can fix that, then I'll be glad I did it. If we can't fix it, I'll regret it or get used to it," Rogers admitted.

Another celebrity who looks different due to surgery is Everret. After undergoing a series of operations including blepharoplasty, the hot star of “My Best Friend’s Wedding” is a far cry from the handsome actor we used to know. Commenting on Everret’s new looks, Make Me Heal, a Los Angeles-based company that provides people with information on plastic surgery, said in its web site:

“(Everret) is a bad example of plastic surgery gone awry. The new Rupert looks nothing like the old one, with no vestiges of his old hunky self. All the unique traits of the old Rupert are gone. While this is not a new story, seeing the before and after pics made us sad. What seems to be at work is a bad cheek implant job, eye lift, and potentially a facelift or brow lift.”

If you’re seriously considering blepharoplasty for your eye bags, dark circles or puffy eyes, consult a reliable doctor for the right information. Don’t rush into the procedure blindly without being aware of the risks involved.

For those who shun invasive and expensive surgery, there is another option: Eyevive. A small amount of Eyevive applied twice a day to the skin below and around the eyes will help strengthen the skin, improve circulation, and reduce the appearance of eye bags, dark circles, wrinkles and other skin imperfections.
