Having a panic attack can be very uncomfortable if you're not used to it. Most people still have not heard about panic attacks, so they are not sure how to help you deal with them. Here are some effective ways to handle panic attacks so that you feel better when you have them.

Panic attacks are very real and are very scary. Once you realize that you are experiencing panic, try not to fight it and begin reminding yourself that you are OK. Try to remain calm by reminding yourself that these are symptoms of an over-sensitive nervous system. Also, keep in mind, that in a few moments the symptoms will disappear.

As you experience a panic attack, you should focus on your feelings and write them down in a journal. You must focus on your REAL feelings, not fears of what might happen to you down the road. Keep to what you feel right now, and how you think those feelings relate to your pre-attack state.

During a panic attack, try practicing "7-11 breathing". This technique involves breathing in as you slowly count to seven and breathing out as you slowly count to eleven. This ensures that you are taking deep, slow breaths, which prevents you from taking in too much oxygen (known as hyperventilating).

Understand that you are not having a heart attack. At the height of a panic attack, you may think that you are actually having a heart attack - you aren't. Your heart is operating in the same way as it does when you are exercising vigorously, the difference being you don't notice it as much when you are exercising.

If you find your mind slipping back into past negative situations or rushing forward into "could happen" events, you need to ground yourself in the now to avoid a panic attack. Drop the thought that's bothering you and replace it with observations about the environment around you right now and how great it is to be alive.

Occupying your mind is simple as the human brain can only concentrate on between five and nine things at a time. Start by focusing on controlling your breathing, then on the air that's flowing in and out, followed by the feeling in your throat as you breathe. Keep adding sensations or positive thoughts until your mind is so full of positive activity that you can't think of any worries at all!

Try sniffing lavender the next time you feel a panic attack starting. Try a lavender hand lotion, or place a few drops of essential oil on a handkerchief that you can smell. Lavender has long been used to promote relaxation, and the comforting smell may help you to calm down faster during an attack.

Of course, consulting a doctor is the first thing you should do, but after you've talked to him, make sure to use these tips as a blueprint. Panic attacks can be unpleasant, but you are strong enough to handle them--especially once you arm yourself with the right kind of information.

True healing often begins in the slow, intentional kind, the kind that lets the body lead and the mind follow.rnThat’s where precision-based training, such as re
