With so many countries, islands (about 7000) and resorts to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice. The current economic climate makes an all inclusive holiday to the Caribbean excellent value for money. There is a huge array of 4 and 5 star hotels in the various resorts offering excellent standards of accommodation and great facilities in spectacular beach front locations. Most all inclusive resorts have buffet restaurant food with a number of themed a la carte restaurants that you can experience as a change from the buffet. The Caribbean islands are famous for their year round sunshine, crystal clear waters, golden sandy beaches, friendly people and fabulous food and music. The region has an exotic, complex and sometimes murderous history involving pirates, the slave trade, colonialism and revolution resulting in a diverse mix of influences and cultures. Caribbean food is spicy and vibrant combining flavours in a way that no other country or region does - a fusion of African, Amerindian, British, Spanish, French, Dutch, Indian and Chinese cuisine. Goat stew is incredibly popular as is the famous Jerk Chicken and Rice and Peas. Caribbean music is just as infections with reggae’s unique sounds in particular having become synonymous with the islands paradise tropical beaches and a holiday feeling. The climate is tropical with warm winds blowing in from the east creating contrasting areas of rainforest and semi-desert on the mountainous islands. During the summer the weather can be stormy and wet, with August and September being particularly unpleasant, some resorts even close at this time of year. The weather during the winter is still warm but tends to be much drier. If you are interested in discovering more of the islands fascinating culture rather than soaking up the sun then the summer can be the ideal time to visit. The islands are in general pretty casual so you will only need to take light comfy clothing a basic wardrobe of t-shirts, shorts and a swimsuit would be ideal with some long trousers or skirt thrown in for nights out. Even if you’re visiting in the winter you won’t need a jumper! In addition to the cultural attractions of the islands and also the unparallel beaches the Caribbean is also home to fantastic wildlife. The waters surrounding the islands have large migratory schools of fish and turtles. There are also beautiful coral reef formations and underwater mountains, perfect for scuba diving.
