Dreams Left Behind
Most of us including myself spend the daily grind just trying to get by. I see and hear advice everyday about following your dream and doing what you love. It sounds so easy but as many have discovered sometimes life gets in the way. Conquering the world seemed like such a clear path when I was a child. Before my imagination was diminished by the society’s dos and don’ts of adult hood, I had it all figured out. Like many us I went to bed and suddenly woke up as an adult one day. I had real world problems, children of my own, and bills to pay. Don’t get me wrong I am not complaining about the path I ended up on, I am just trying to say things don’t always go as planned.
It’s never to late to start doing what you love. You don’t have to quit your job or make big changes to start following the path to your dreams. It’s not about all or nothing with passion. It all starts with making sure you have a little bit of time left every day for you. Start off by making a promise that you will spend about 3% of your day investing in yourself. That means you will have at least 45 minutes a day to write on your book, take some online classes, hit the gym, read, or practice a skill. It doesn’t sound like much but that is over 273 hours in a year’s time. There is a satisfaction in doing things you are passionate about that will make you feel like a new person. Things in your life will begin to shift and you will be on track to becoming the best version of you.
“If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be” Joseph Campbell.
We all have the ability to follow our bliss. Your bliss is the thing that is calling you, that unfinished task haunting your dreams, that idea you set aside when you got married, or that silly notion you pushed to the back of your mind one day. Somewhere along the way someone you respected said you shouldn’t, you wouldn’t, or you couldn’t. What if I told you they were wrong? What if I told you that their preconceived ideals of possibilities had nothing to do with your limitations?
Your passion doesn’t have to be something you can make a living doing, it should be something you live to do. It shouldn’t matter if you’re getting paid to follow your bliss because the person you are becoming makes you rich in so many other ways. So don’t throw your dream to the curb because you can’t make enough money at it to survive. Start out doing what you love in your extra time. If it opens up new doors and you find yourself in the midst of a new career then good for you. If you still have to work your old job but you get to do something you love every once in a while then good for you. I don’t see a negative outcome to the situation.
There it is guys and gals. If you have suggestions, comments, or questions be sure to hit me up.
