Drug Abuse And Teenagers: Needs Some Steps By Parents

Drugs are Satan’s most powerful weapon which once hits a person, recovery is impossible. They not only take away peace and serenity of a family but also destroy the future of those related to the victim. Drug abuse, also known as substance abuse is a pressing issue of concern today. More and more students are getting involved in taking drugs and becoming addicts to it within no time. Such attitude and behavior leads to darkness which can never be removed from an individual’s life. They never realize about it once they taste the life devouring substances. For teens it becomes a regular habit to take drugs if any control on their actions is not exercised. Today most of the urban high class enjoys taking drugs at rave parties and other places as well. This makes them vulnerable to other diseases too. They are naïve and can be dyed in any color by the world outside, it is important to instill good values in them before they start interacting with unknown people. Youngsters need to be adequately educated about drugs and their harmful effects, although there are cases where teens know about it yet they cannot control their heart and leap forward to give into their urge. Drugs like marijuana, heroin, cocaine and brown sugar are extremely harmful and finish an individual’s immunity to other foreign elements. In a recent survey it has been established that a whopping 7.5 crore drug addicts reside in India which is an alarming number. This number contains addicts from every age group and not just teenagers. From urban areas it has started spreading in to the semi-urban and back ward areas too which is quite shocking as well. The reason for adolescents and teenagers to slip into substance abuse is stress and peer influence as well as bad company. Parents should be very careful about their wards when they enter in the adolescent and teenage period because this is the most crucial time phase in their life. Many students even start drug dealings which is an illegal conduct. They in fact sell death to the society for their personal gains. Drugs alter the brain chemistry and create hallucinations in their minds leading them to do abnormal actions. Once a student takes a drug the addiction increases to sky levels and the urge to have them at any cost makes them forget relationships, society and friends. This surely destroys their career but life also become quite miserable. Family members at many places get boycotted because of being related to a drug addict. Having a drug addict at home can create problems for everyone around them. In such cases parents should try to get the victim to a rehabilitation center in order to make them better citizens. Continuous watch with a hawk’s eye needs to be kept in order to cure any relapse if occurs. This becomes quite a dire situation for the family members; however to make their life a better these conditions need to be fulfilled. This is a disheartening subject yet hope lies within the parents and the victim only. The most important part is the will to improve, if that is strong in the victim, chances are that they won’t turn out to be drug addicts in future.
