In a recent article in Forbes magazine, Wachovia CEO G. Kennedy Thompson is quoted as saying that Beta Theta Pi, which he joined while an undergrad at the University of North Carolina, gave him "the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and places, and the connections have continued beyond my university years to my business life."

We know that emotional intelligence (social skills) can account for as much of your success, or more, than your IQ. Do frate
ities produce EQ, or require it, or correlate with it? Here's some interesting information from the North-American Interfrate
ity Conference. You be the judge.

1. About ¼ of all chief executives on Forbes Super 500 list of America’s largest corporations were members of college frate
ities.

"Social skills needed to gain admittance into the Greek system are the same aptitudes that can later give them a leg-up in corporate climbing," says Forbes magazine.

2. Only about 8.5% of full-time university undergraduates are members of either a frate
ity or sorority.

3. Frate
ities have produced 48% of all US presidents.

4. Frate
ities have produced 42% of US senators.

5. Frate
ities have produced 30% of US Congressmen.

6. Frate
ities have produced 40% of Supreme Court justices.

7. Among frate
ity members who are Forbes 500s CEOs, 11 are Beta Theta Pi members.

8. 9 are Sigma Alpha Epsilon members and 9 are Sigma Chi members.

9. 8 are Lambda Chi Alpha members.

10. And 7 are Alpha Tau Omega members.
