In the long, cold dark of the British winter, very little gets done to the exterior of homes around the country as the weather just is not suitable. In fact, very little gets done to the interior of homes, since when people come home from a hard day of work the daylight is long gone, and people are desperate to sit in their warm living room and relax for a little while. It is fair to say that getting up again to do some DIY is not on the minds of many throughout the winter months. Another problem of course, is that in this country winter seems to last for an inordinate amount of time. It can be March or even April before people start to see the light of day, and therefore the house can seem in desperate need of a bit of a going over by the time Easter comes.

Easter is a great time for home improvements because there are a few Bank Holidays, so people have a little bit of spare time. The weather around this time of year is also starting to improve, so a couple of sunny days are not unheard of, which means people can take care of the outside of their house. Whether this means cutting the grass for the first time in a few months, or planting a few seeds ready for spending time in the garden over the summer is up to you.

If you have been cold over the winter, you may be looking to replace your doors or windows. The endless rain and increasing levels of snow can leave windows looking very dirty by Eastertime, so many people might be looking forward to a bit of a change. Double glazed windows can not only keep you warm during the cold spells that probably have not completely passed yet, they can also keep some of the heat out of your home during the summer months, if we are lucky enough to get any this year.

New patio doors may be a good investment with the coming summer months. If you already have old, wooden patio doors you will likely be aware that they are not particularly secure, so it could be a good idea to replace them; if you do not have doors to your garden yet, you might be thinking of installing them to provide easy access for when the sun comes out; after all, by April, summer is just around the corner.
