As search engine optimization consultant, I always wondered what to get the average webmaster can do to improve your ranking in search engines. My answer is always the same, hire me!
There are some very simple techniques that most webmasters can follow, which have an effect on search rankings. Here is my list of six techniques that are free and fast to implement, but can make a noticeable improvement in your website in search results.
1. Title Tags
The title tag is between the head tags of your page:
your title here </ title> rnSearch engines use the information contained on the label as the title of your ad on their results pages.
As this is the most prominent line in the search results page, make sure your title tag contains a compelling description of your site, what search engines will want to click. You also want to make sure it is unique and relevant to the page you are driving.
Your title should contain keywords and key phrases that search engines are likely to use in the search for your product or service.
The two most popular search engines are Yahoo! and Google. Google will display up to 66 characters in the title before trimming, Yahoo! will display up to 120. In the design of a title, they remain less than 120 characters, but make sure it still makes sense when it is cut into 66 characters.
2. Key words and phrases
Research shows that people who buy a product or service online are more likely to use 2-3 word phrases.
When researching keywords and key phrases is better to make a list of about 10-15 key phrases for each page, each phrase containing 2-3 words, these are the phrases you want to be found in the pages of results.
The keyword and key phrases should be reflected in the content of your page, if your page is about blue widgets, the content must contain the words in blue widgets.
You can also include keywords and key phrases into the keywords tag at the top of the page as a list separated by commas:
<meta name="keywords" widgets, content="blue yellow widgets"> rnIt is believed that most search engines do not pay much attention to this label, however, is a good place to store this information in an auxiliary memory.
3. Tag Description
The description tag can also be found in the head section of your website:
<meta name="description" content="My great blue widgets"> website rnThe description tag should contain a brief and accurate description of the content of your website and must be unique for each page.
This is the description that can be viewed on your site in search results, so make sure it is well written, contains the keywords that particular page and requires the researcher to click!
4. Titles Labels
Wherever you have titles in the main body of your page, best practice is to use the tag titles. These labels are represented using h1 to h6 as follows: rnTitle 1 Title 2 <h1> <h1> <h2> <h2> ... <h3> Title 6 </ h6> </ h2> </ h2> </ h1> </ h1> rnAs expected, h1 is the title of largest and most important, leading to the smallest h6.
By using the h1 tag from the beginning on its website about a rich title phrase, you are giving yourself the opportunity to be found with this sentence.
5. Links
By obtaining good quality inbound links to your page, search engines see it as a good authority on the subject, which improves your ranking in search results.
It is important that inbound links or back are of good quality sites, with some relevance to the theme of the website. For example, a site could benefit from mortgage bonds from banks, real estate and insurance companies, but not leisure centers.
Some web site owners will ask for a link from your web site in exchange for one of theirs, which is called link exchange or reciprocal links. One way links are better than we, but more difficult to achieve.
It has been shown to have a few quality links trusted sites can improve your ranking. Trusted sites are subject to the recognized authority in your area, such as the BBC, BT or the Bank of England. Again, make sure these are relevant outbound links for your theme.
6. Content
It is said that content is king, announced that actually applies to your web pages. The exact contents well written, with lots of words and phrases that attract visitors and search engines.
The best practice is to place your main keywords or key phrases in the first two paragraphs of gaining more weight with search engines.
The most important thing is to write for your audience, not the search engines. This will give you a better chance of converting visitors into customers.
Of course there are many more techniques that can be used to dramatically improve search engine positioning, the few simple methods that have shown that without doubt will get you started on the right track.
