Every life has its ups and downs, and everyone has mood swings to a greater or lesser extent. Feeling sad, or mourning loss, is also a normal part of living. Although we do say I feel depressed for feelings of general disappointment and sadness, they are nowhere close to clinical depression. People suffering from clinical depression describe it as living with depression as "living in a black hole". And the feelings are more of lifelessness, emptiness, and apathy rather than outright sadness. You should get effective depression therapy if you suspect your loved ones or yourself to be suffering from this mental illness as the symptoms will get worse if left untreated. Natural Herbal Depression TherapyrnHops are often used to calm restlessness and reduce anxiety. It is also a tension reliever and eases irritability. It may also help insomnia. The only problem with Hops is that it could make depressive feelings worse. In a supplement however, that property is usually balanced out with mood booster herbs. Rosemary contains carnosic acid which is very important ingredient to shield the brain from free radicals, lowering the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like controlling movements, processing sensory information, and making decisions thereby reducing the risk of stress and depression. Passion Flower is an herb that relieves sleep problems and anxiety. It can help with nervousness and general pain relief. It is also beneficial in helping to regulate mood swings. Effective Strategies For Depression TherapyrnExercise: Any activity, however mild it might be, can lift the spirit. Studies have shown that regular, vigorous exercise can be as effective in lifting a depression as medication. Another option for depression therapy is to try is light therapy. There are people who have been shown to suffer with depression due to not getting enough sunlight during the winter when the days are shorter and there is less sunshine. Two possible answers exist to help this problem. The first is to simply enjoy the sunshine outside as much as possible during what daylight time there is. Having the curtains pulled back to let the sun shine in during the daytime will also help. Second, using light therapy with the guidance of a qualified professional may be very helpful. Diet In Your Depression TherapyrnDiet plays a critical role in ones mental health as well as physical health. It is essential to eat wholesome, natural foods that are organic whenever possible. The American Medical Association (AMA), came out in 2002 and stated that all Americans need to supplement their diet with vitamins and minerals. The soil that we’re growing our food supply on has been depleted of its vitamins and minerals and, as such, the food we eat isn’t providing us with all the nutrition we need for our physical and mental well-being. The only way to ensure that we’re getting adequate nutrition is to consume lots of whole grains and vegetables, and complement them with nutritional supplements. It is my opinion that maintaining good nutrition is the single best way for effective depression therapy. Mental Depression TherapyrnHow can a depressed person have their negative thoughts turned into positive ones and get motivated to take charge and solve their problems? Negative and unhelpful thoughts must be acknowledged and written down to find out in detail what they are about. Those thoughts can then be evaluated and graded in terms of how useful, true or constructive they are. Questions such as "Is it possible that this way of thinking is not 100% true or realistic? Are you discounting the positive and only focusing on the negative?" where negativity is challenged, will provide reflection on the validity of what the person is saying to themselves. If it's not completely true or realistic; "Why not? And then why would you think that way?". Knowing how you think and changing your thoughts rationally into positive terms are extremely effective as mental depression therapy.
