Having a toothache can make your day miserable. When the toothache is bad enough, it can make eating, drinking, and even speaking difficult. One common treatment for toothaches is a root canal. Root canals are done on patients whose tooth or teeth are very seriously decayed. Many people have heard horror stories about root canals, and put them off as long as possible. In reality, however, root canals are not as bad as you may think. Root Canal Procedure Often times, a root canal is scheduled after the dentist has determined that one is necessary. Most dentists do not have enough time in a time slot to do both the diagnosis and the procedure. The first step in the root canal process is to make your mouth numb. The dentist will give you an injection of local anesthesia in the area that he will be treating. If the tooth's pulp is very inflamed, it can take a while for your mouth to get numb, however, the dentist will not begin until it is. In order for the treatment to be sterile, the dentist will use a dental dam. This is a thin sheet of rubber, which covers the surrounding teeth, while allowing the dentist access to the affected tooth.rnThe dentist will drill an access hole into the surface of the back of the affected tooth. In some cases, the hole will be drilled from behind a front tooth. This allows the dentist to get full access to the root canals and pulp chamber. Using a specially designed tool, the dentist will remove the dead or diseased pulp tissue. This tool is also used to scrape the pulp chamber, making sure that everything has been removed. Because the tissue being removed is either dead or dying, this part of the treatment is not painful. Also, you have had been given a local anesthetic, so you will be numb. The dentist will disinfect the canal with antibacterial and antiseptic solutions.rnThe canals are shaped with very small, flexible instruments. This will prepare the canal to receive the filler and sealer. Once the canals are shaped, they are cleaned again, to remove any excess debris. The root canal is filled with a rubber like material. This material is heated and compressed so that they fit properly into the canal's wall. An sealer, made of adhesive cement is then placed to seal the canal. This is very important in order to prevent the canal from being reinfected with bacteria. The access hole is sealed with either a temporary or permanent filling. If there was a serious infection, a temporary sealer will be used. The doctor will apply an antibiotic to the access hole, temporarily sealing it up. When you return about a week later, a permanent filler will be used.rnIf the tooth lacks the structure needed to hold the filling, a post made of either metal or strong plastic will be placed within the canal to help hold it. A crown may also be necessary. Get special root canal treatment in orange ca is not as bad as people make it sound. In most cases, the pain caused by the tooth decay will be gone after the procedure. The pain that you will feel when the anesthesia wears off will be minimal.
