Are we Preventing Heart Disease?nnBy: Shane Ellison M.Sc.nAll rights Copyright © 2004nAll Rights ReservednnAre we preventing heart disease? Or are we simply throwing ourmoney and health down the pharmaceutical drain for cholesterollowering drugs that do not have any benefits?nnFrom the first time that a cholesterol lowering drug is swallowed, most users rest well thinking that they are going to prevent thispandemic killer. Rarely do consumers question the effectiveness ordangers associated with their cholesterol lowering drug. And whyshould they? There is more money spent on advertising the so-calledbenefits of these drugs than on researching them.nnMarketing repetition over the last 30 years has not led to a moreinformed America but rather a more medicated America, where doctorsand patients blindly ingest these so-called "magic bullets". Forproof of this we can look to the paradox where despite the popularity ofthese drugs and their ability to lower cholesterol levels, not asingle one of them has ever been shown to prevent early death (overall mortality). Not One! nnThe newest drug Crestor plummeted cholesterol levels, yet failed to show anyeffectiveness as could be seen by a 0% decrease in total mortalityrates among users. Yet Crestor, and sister drugs like Lipitor, arebeing recommended for the masses, even children.nnThe truth be told, cholesterol lowering drugs, as shown in thescientific literature, are not only ineffective, but among the mosttoxic drugs ever to be released for human consumption. Therefore, logic dictates that that those using cholesterol lowering drugs maywant to reconsider their preventative efforts, before it's toolate. This begins by pondering the question, "Am I reallypreventing heart disease?" Answering this question guarantees thatwe do not let marketing hype supersede logic and scientific fact.Ultimately, this will lead to proven methods of preventing America'snumber one killer.
