Introduction An embryo transfer refers to a procedure that is considered to be the last component in IVF (in-vitro fertilization). It is an option for those women who are unable to conceive due to some reproductive tract limitations like facing endometriosis, repeated pregnancy loss, or there are some systematic issues like a pelvic fracture, lameness, etc. Even there are different other reasons by which there comes a requirement of embryo transfer like when there is a presence of ovulation disorders, premature ovarian failure, uterine fibroids, damage to the fallopian tubes, etc. Basically, there are two different types of embryo transfer takes place in the process, namely single embryo transfer and multiple embryo transfer. We will try to tell you about both the types and things related to them. Single Embryo Transfer When a patient is treated with the procedure of in-vitro fertilization, she is generally facilitated by some medicines in order to stimulate her ovaries so that she could produce more than one egg at a time. The eggs are then collected and delivered to get fertilized with the sperm. The practitioners keep an eye on those fertilized eggs whether any of them have turn into embryos. After that, one or more embryos get transferred back into her uterus. In the case of single embryo transfer, one of the aims is to lessen down the chances of multiple pregnancy rate linked with IVF. Single embryo transfer takes place when a woman wishes to have only one embryo transferred even if there is an availability of some other embryos. A study has mentioned that if there is an implementation of a single embryo in the procedure of in-vitro fertilization, there are much brighter chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy and birth. This proves to be one of the greatest advantages of single embryo transfer as one of the main objectives behind performing in-vitro fertilization is to boost the chances of a healthy baby. Those who know about the process of embryo transfer and wishes to perform on their own might contain thought in mind to transfer more than a single embryo at a time to improve their odds of achieving pregnancy. But they need to understand that when the result is visible in the form of twins, triplets or even more, there can be chances for the babies to have some problems like premature birth. Single Embryo Transfer Success Rate Talking about the success rate, it has been said that transferring a single embryo in the uterus of a woman at the time of assisted reproductive treatment instead of more than one embryo proves to be better. It is due to avoiding the chances of multiple pregnancy and different types of risks related to it. Though it is also true that a woman can get more twins or even triplets with the help of a single embryo transfer. Multiple Embryo Transfer When someone is struggling for a child, thought of getting twins or triplets with the help of in-vitro fertilization might sound good to them. But they need to understand that a multiple pregnancy can prove to be the biggest health risk for IVF babies. Sometimes people have a thought in mind that a single embryo transfer will somehow decrease their chances of getting pregnant, but the thing doesn't take place in every case. If there is a presence of getting twins or multiples, it can pose some risks to both the mother and children like maternal mortality, gestational diabetes, miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, preterm delivery or pre-term labor. When a mother gives birth to twins, triplets or even more, it is a common thing that it will cause pregnancy complications along with longer recovery time to her. That's why it becomes very important to know about different aspects before indulging into the practice of multiple embryo transfer and understanding the difference as compared to single embryo transfer. Embryo Transfer Cost One of the important thing that matters in the cost of embryo transfer is the treatment and care required by the patients. Talking about the average cost, a person will be charged near around Rs. 25,000-50,000 for frozen embryo transfer. When the things are about the cost of egg freezing, a person will have to spend an amount of near around Rs. 25,000 along with an annual charge. In order to identify the actual cost of embryo transfer, there is a need to ask the organization you prefer for the procedure.
