Employees normally complain that they were barred of their rights at work. But that does not mean they are always right. This article will tell a little about the rights of employees and ‘not so rights’ of employees.
Let’s start by the topic by explaining some different scenarios:
1. ‘My employer fired me without any cause. Is it not my right to know the cause? And is he wrong in firing me abruptly?’
As stated above, employee has the problem that he is fired and he states that without any reason. So let’s take a look… In general terms employers do not need any reason to fire their workers though they need to give a clear reason of your termination. But they cannot fire a person on the basis of his creed, race or things like that.
2. Let’s take another scenario, an employee complains, ‘I joined a company and for the first month they deducted 10% of my pay saying that Sundays are not counted in first pay’.
As stated above, that the employer deducted the salary of Sundays from first month. According to the law, an employer cannot deduct amount, unless it is given by the employee in written statement. Also, the employer can deduct pay for loss of property or tax withholdings.
3. An employee asked, ‘Do we need to be notified if we are being discharged from a company?’
According to the statement, an employee wants to know whether he should be notified or not. The answer to that question is that employers are not obliged to notify their employees if they are discharging or terminating them. But for a fair treatment, they can notify them but that is not necessary.
4. Sexual harassment is a big issue in office environment. Many females in offices are sexually harassed. Some are brave enough to record and document all the proofs and meet the harasser in court. While others are not that good enough, and they never tell anyone what happened to them in boss’s room.
Effectively, government takes this issue seriously and for your part you can file a complaint in the governmental court and also talk to your super visor. If that does not solve the problem you can talk to an attorney for further actions.
