Deciding to ask someone to marry you is a huge decision! Now you have to decide HOW to make the proposal! Where to start? This is an exciting, emotional, and potentially anxiety producing time in a person’s life. An engagement proposal is a big deal, hopefully, a once in a lifetime big deal! Let us help you relax a bit. This article is full of helpful tips on creating a romantic, creative and unique Valentines engagement proposal. Helping people create precious memories and commemorate those memories with personalized keepsakes is our passion. Read on and see what tips and tricks you can use to make this special day unforgettable. rnFirst: The Speech Prepare your engagement proposal speech well in advance so that you have plenty of time to choose the perfect words to convey your feelings. You might consider including the story of how met, and other special moments you have shared. Whatever you do, don’t forget to include how your significant other makes you FEEL - this will go a long way to make your proposal extra special, particularly if you are usually an emotionally reserved type. Begin by talking about how wonderful life has been so far with your loved one. Next address the plans you both share about the life you want to build and the dreams you have. Emphasize how much you look forward to growing old with your special someone - this will take your speech over the top! rnIn the end that is what marriage is all about - growing old with the love of your life. Knowing that you want to be with that special someone through thick and thin, in sickness and in health - and knowing that person will be there for you in good times and in bad. These are the ideas that great speeches are made of! rnSecond: Setting the Scene Decide where you want to make your engagement proposal. Is there a special place that you would like to propose? Or maybe you want to do it where you will be guaranteed privacy, at home? Or maybe you want an audience. You might consider inviting family and close friends to join in (as part of a surprise proposal) or maybe you prefer privacy. rnA few options for a place away from home might be taking your significant other back to the place where you first met, had your first date, or your first kiss. Plan ahead of time, and make sure you call the location in advance to make any necessary preparations. You may need to get permission, or help with setting up decorations, or you may want to secure a private room or corner. Decorations not always necessary, but if you do plan to decorate, a wonderful way to do it is to gather a collection of photos that focus on your relationship and some of your favorite memories. Think about displaying them around the table or maybe as a collage in a nice frame that can be kept as a keepsake. Another idea is to create a photo collage with all of the best photos that you share together, or create a photo album to display and enjoy on the big day (sites like Picaboo and Shutterfly make creating photo gifts easy and affordable). Another way to use decor to set the mood is with candles or flowers. Candlelight is the epitome of romance, and remember - the more the better! When choosing flowers, keep in mind your loved one’s preferences, not everyone likes roses, and some people might be allergic. You would hate to ruin the big moment with an allergic reaction! When planning your Valentines Engagement Proposal in your home, the sky is the limit when it comes to creativity and decor. You can fill your home from top to bottom with candles or flowers or BOTH! You can create a path from the front door to another room in the house where the Engagement Proposal will take place. You might also consider creating a “treasure hunt”, with creative notes strategically placed around the house leading your loved one to the “main stage”. No matter how you choose to set the scene, rest assured that the thought and effort you put into this will not go unnoticed. The more creative, and the more out of your comfort zone you go, the more impressive the event will be! rnThree: Figure out the Timing Timing quite possibly one of the most important aspects of your engagement proposal.  This one however is dependent on how you choose to set the scene.  You have to ask yourself if you prefer to build up to the moment through the day or get straight into it like you would a surprise party?  As you make this decision, consider your future spouse’s personality too. Do they like to be surprised, or do they enjoy a good build up?  Also consider your personality? How is your poker face? If you are someone who likes to have a little bit of fun and won’t get too anxious as time passes, a delayed engagement proposal might be the best. rnFour: Decide How to Present the Ring How you present the ring is often inspired by the location of the engagement proposal. For instance, if you plan to propose during a romantic dinner you may want to attach the ring to a wine bottle, or glass stem, or napkin ring. You could also prepare a gift that holds the ring, try to get creative here so as not to give clues to the ring. A ring box is a dead giveaway! One unique gift idea is Personalized Engagement Ornaments .  You can inscribe “will you marry me” on an Engagement Ornament, or any ornament that represents something special about you as a couple – as well as the date of the Engagement Proposal and you can tie the real ring to the ornament with a gold or silver ribbon. The personalized ornament then becomes a keepsake the special day that can be hung in a special place year round, or maybe reserved for the Christmas Tree so that you can re-live your special day every year around the Holidays.
