What is your immune system and why is it so important?

I could easily give you some boring dictionary definition that would read something like this…

Immune System - a diffuse, complex network of interacting cells, cell products, and cell-forming tissues that protects the body from pathogens and other foreign substances, destroys infected and malignant cells, and removes cellular debris: the system includes the thymus, spleen, lymph nodes and lymph tissue, stem cells, white blood cells, antibodies, and lymphokines.

Here is a much simpler – and less technical – definition:

The immune system is our internal system for self healing and for the protection from outside invaders.

That’s right…your immune system is your own personal army working to neutralize foreign invaders, such as viruses and bacteria. It also helps protect you against many environmental pollutants and chemicals.

On any given day we are exposed to millions of foreign cells. Fortunately our powerful immune system is there to protect us.

Or is it?

The problem is that we unknowingly do many things that weaken or suppress our immune system.

Simple things such as not getting enough sleep, letting stress get to us and not eating properly can cause chemical responses in our body that decrease our immune system’s ability to function at an optimal state.

And the problem is greater than that.

In addition to suppressing our immune system, we are not giving it the right fuel it needs to function at its peak level of performance. Since we are giving it less raw material to work with, it doesn’t work as well as it could be.

And if the immune system were to take the necessary energy to function, it would be at the expense of other systems within the body. This would leave you more stressed, tired and vulnerable to attack by foreign invaders.

This is why it is vital to do everything you can to provide your immune system the best possible environment to function…and with the proper raw materials it needs to function at its highest level possible.

The immune system is incredible. We just need to support it properly and then get out of its way so it can do its job.

Movement is one of the most honest forms of self-connection. The body never lies. It holds stress, records emotion, and reveals when something feels off. For many, this is why exercise has always been more than fitness; it’s therapy through motion. But not all movement heals. Some styles exhaust, others distract. True healing often begins in the slow, intentional kind, the kind that lets the body lead and the mind follow.rnThat’s where precision-based training, such as re
