India is a cultural land full of varied traditional festivals and fairs. Being a multi-lingual or multi-religious nation, the country celebrates numerous festivals right from harvesting of crops, old-age ritual of Teej to welcoming the spring season and Devotion by womenfolk on Gangaur. Teej is festively upcoming festival of our country that is celebrated for welcoming the pleasant weather of Monsoon. Apart from it, India celebrates famous Holi, Diwali, Basant Panchami, Onam, Pushkar etc.
A much-loving festival of Rajasthan, the Gangaur occasion is celebrated in the honour of Goddess Gauri, the companion of Lord Shiva is worshipped. The Devotees of Mata Gauri visit here to participate in this occasion to enjoy folk dance & music with full of energy and joy. This event takes place in Jaipur during the months of July and August to welcome the smooth and pleasant atmosphere of Monsoon.
During this period of Monsoon, many crops are harvested that brings joy on the faces of farmers. On this day, unmarried girls do fasting in respect of Mata Gauri for being blessed with good husbands. Plus, married women worship her for the long years, long life and welfare of their husbands. Moreover, a day before the event, women embellish their hands with different designing of Mahendi and also draw Rangoli at the front of their homes.
Summer festival
Mount Abu is the only coldest hill station in Rajasthan which is recently busy in the preparation of its summer festival. It is held in Mount Abu for three days in which one can enjoy classical music and dance, embodying old-age culture and versatility of the nation. Many of renowned traditional performances are invited to perform exclusively to entertain the audience, gathered here. The first and the foremost performance of this event is Ballad that boosts the spirit of the folk artists. The gaiety of this festival is enhanced by numerous competitions like boat race on the Nakki Lake. The Sham-e-Qawwali is the heart of this occasion which is focused on Quawwlis and is accompanied by renowned qawwals from across the world.
Teej
Teej is the most important occasion of Rajasthan in India which is celebrated on July –August. Also known as a “festival of Swings”, it is celebrated with immerse fervor and culture in the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. On this day, women gathered at one place and worship to Goddess Paravati for welfare and safety of their husbands. Plus, they do fasting and wear bright clothes & accessories for well-being of the spouses.
Besides it, there are many more carnivals in north India which are also celebrated with full of excitement and fervent.
