South Africa is a country situated at the southernmost point of the African Continent. The country shares its borders with Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho. South Africa is surely the most developed country in Africa and has the strongest economy among all the countries of the continent.

Moreover, South Africa enjoys the largest numbers of European, Indian, and African communities in Africa. Tourists from around the world travel thousands of kilometers to enjoy their holidays in South Africa.

During the 2nd century AD, groups of farmers who came from central Africa resided in South Africa. These are the original inhabitants of the country. Afterwards in the middle of the 17th century, the Dutch settlers arrived to the country and they established an independent state in the area near Cape Town, the capital of South Africa today.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the British took control of the country while the Dutch founded themselves a capital that was eventually added to the British Empire in 1877. After a series of battles, the British even governed the areas where the original African community lived.

In 1948, South Africa officially adopted the Apartheid policy that clearly expressed racial discrimination. The blacks were only allowed to work in certain professions. They were prohibited from participating in elections. They were even isolated in their houses, work, and schools. However, the country has abandoned these policies at the beginning of the 1990s. Nowadays, equality has started being the base of the governance in South Africa.

The most important touristic attractions in South Africa would include the Table Mountain. Located in Cape Town, the Table Mountain was chosen to be among the seven natural wonders of the world. The mountain is featured with its wonderful flat top that is 1470 above sea level in height, which appears like a table. The guests enjoying their vacations in South Africa would reach the top of the mountain using a cable car in a ride for more than 750 meters. The mountain offers amazing views of the whole area around it as well.

Another touristic attraction in South Africa is the Garden Route that is situated on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Many travelers who tour South Africa visit the Garden Route National Park for its rich wild animals like elephants and many other species. For the water-skiing fans, there is the Port Elizabeth that is famous for this wonderful sea sport.

Another place many tourists who travel to South Africa would visit is the Robben Island situated around 7 kilometers away from Cape Town. The island is famous for having the prison where Nelson Mandela, the famous South African leader, spent most of his life. This island has become a popular destination for traverses that spend their holidays in South Africa to view the historical buildings and many types of animals and birds.

The Victoria and Alfred waterfront as well attracts many travelers who enjoy their vacation in South Africa. Situated in the historical section of the port of Cape Town, this area offers a large scope of entertainment means for its guests including shopping, restaurants, nightclubs, discos, resorts, and some museums.

There are also the magnificent beaches of the country that welcomes numerous tourists who spend their vacation in South Africa every year. One of the most wonderful beaches of South Africa is the Penguins Beach. Located in Cape Town, the beach offers the guests with the opportunity to watch penguins in their daily life and natural environment.

The Cradle of Humankind is perhaps the most important historical site in South Africa. Included in the UNESCO world heritage list, this area, located near Johannesburg, is featured for its complicated and large number of caves that hosts many of the most ancient fossils found in the world. Many of the guests who go for tours in South Africa would pay the Cradle of Humankind a visit.
