Enlightenment movement

Last week, cooperating with a local TV program, our college held an interactive quiz. Fortunately I was one of participants. It was a strong competition, I had to say, and it looked that all of participates would like to try their best to win the fantastic prizes of this activity: best iphone 4 case as well as various sorts of usb gadgets. This inspiration also did work for me. To my big surprise, as the second prize winner, I got an usb drive with a large volume. You may ask why the good luck always favored me. Well, it was a coincidence indeed, as a matter of fact, in the answer to the quiz problems, three of questions were concerning with one literature period: Neoclassic time which was just what I expert in. I am a big fan of the English literature; there are three of my favorite writers, Alexander Pope, Joseph Addison and Sir Richard Steele all boring in this period, which is why I had comparative advantage than all my competitors this time: Here let me detail you of this period and give you guy with the panorama of the most important activity of neoclassic time, Enlightment Movement. Generally speaking , Neoclassic period refer to the time from 1660 to 1798, so generally speaking, what we now call the neoclassical time is the one in English literature between the return of the Stuarts to the English throne in 1660 and the full assertion of Romanticism which came with the republication of Lyrical Ballads by Wordsworth and Coleridge . At the neoclassic time, there was a national movement putting a great influence on the English literature: Enlighten Movement. Well, let me trace back to the history. The eighteenth-century England is also known as the Age of Enlightenment or age of Reason. It purposes was to enlighten the whole world with the light of modern philosophical and artistic idea. The enlighteners celebrated reason or rationality, equality and science. They hold that the reason or rationality should be the only, the final course of any human thought and activities.rnThey call for a reference to order, reason and rules. They convinced that when reason servers to the only yardstick of the measurement of all human activities, then every superstitious, injustice and oppression was yield to place to the “ eleternal truth. At the same time, the enlightens advocates the universe education and hold a firmly thought that if the masses were well educated, then there would be a great chance for a democratic and equal human society. As a matter of fact, at that time, it was the literature with the main form of didactic and moralizing giving the mass the most popular education. In the field of literature, the Enlightenment brought about a revival of interest in the old classic works. This tendency knows as neoclassicism. According to the neoclassists , all forms of literature were to be molded after the classic works of ancient Roman and Greek writers, (Homer, Virgil, Horace , Ovid , etc ) and those of contemporary French ones.
