Environmental chambers are test chambers that provide a controlled atmosphere to study the effect of specific environmental conditions on biological samples, industrial products, electronic goods and their components. These equipments provide enclosed spaces with specific conditions of temperature, pressure, illumination, salinity and relative humidity to allow testing of the product for its quality and reliability, technical defects and possible manufacturing flaws. They are also used to study the effect of sudden and extreme environmental fluctuations, electromagnetic radiations, electro dynamic vibrations, vacuum, salt spray and UV degradation on the product. The environmental chambers find widespread use in the electronics and food industry, research units and biotechnology laboratories to study the quality and behaviour of their products under simple or complex environments and to predict their potential life-span and shelf life.
The most important criterion for an Environmental chamber is its ability to generate and sustain precise environmental conditions within the chamber and duplication of the same set of conditions for repeat experiments for more reliable conclusions. Since the equipment is constantly exposed to varying conditions of temperature and humidity, it is essentially made up of rust-free materials with corrosion proof external and internal surfaces. These surfaces are generally pre-treated with primers and rust-proofing, followed by powder coating or use of non-reactive paints to ensure that there is no contamination of the products being tested.
The salt spray test chamber is used specifically to check the resistance of coated samples and metallic components against corrosion. They are also used to check the efficacy of protective procedures such as painting, anodizing, galvanizing and lubrication in providing resistance against corrosion. The salt spray test chamber is equipped with an atomizer that produces a dense saline fog within the chamber and a device for measuring the metal oxides and other corrosion products generated as a result of corrosion over a period of time. They are especially useful in the study of enzymatic reactions, temperature sensitive biochemical reactions and tissue culture experiments.

These test chambers are available in pleasant, visually appealing designs, which are in sync with the overall look and function of the equipment, with adequate internal lighting and provisions for temperature, illumination and humidity control.
The CFC free cooling provides insulation from outside temperatures while maintaining appropriate temperatures within the chamber. The more sophisticated models use energy efficient cooling and air circulation systems and micro-processor based controllers for more efficient and reliable working conditions.
