Some of the simplest, but most powerful secrets that strengthen your body's healing ability is laughter, joy and fun. These states don't come easily when you are in the midst of battling an illness like Epstein Barr. You need to find ways to bring them into your life just the same.

Humor, laughter and fun have been shown to strengthen the immune system by increasing the number and activity of natural killer cells - the ones that seek and destroy viruses. These powerful emotional states lower the level of stress hormones in the blood, lower blood pressure and reduce pain. Laughter also oxygenates the brain, relaxes muscles, releases toxins and helps you cope.

So how can you introduce more laughter, joy and fun into your life? Here's a simple exercise you can do to help you focus on your emotional well being...

Write a list of 10 things that make you feel good. Your list may include a favorite place that you love to visit, a person who always cheers you up, a yummy food to eat, an absorbing hobby, or just your favorite little luxuries like a bubble bath, foot massage, watching a funny video, enjoying a sunset, giving your pet a cuddle, playing with the kids, relaxing in a hammock, reading a good book, listening to music, enjoying fresh flowers or having an afte
oon nap. My list includes looking through the family photo albums or taking a stroll along the beach or through a forest.

Now your job is to enjoy at least one of these activities every day. The more the better! They should become a part of your daily routine.

Many of my Epstein Barr patients fail to connect the dots between their nonstop lifestyle and becoming ill. If you run a machine continuously it will break down. It is the same with your body! If you give so much to your work, family and friends, then there is nothing left for you. You will feel stressed, negative and overwhelmed. Getting sick is not an accident - it's inevitable.

If you have recurrent negative emotions like anger, hostility, cynicism or depression, then you may find that some daily exercise, meditation, yoga and sitting out in the sunshine helps. If these negative emotions always seem to be there, then have a chat with a trained professional who can give you some ideas and support.

You also need to expect and accept change. Unfortunately people do get sick, go through divorces, job losses, lack of money, natural disasters and death of loved ones. Of course grieving, inner reflection and time with family is important. These things are part of everyone's lives. If we focus on our emotional well being then we are strong physically and mentally and will cope with what life throws at us.

There should be many things in your life that you truly love and enjoy. Please make sure you are doing them! Making time for your emotional well being is an integral part of treating Epstein Barr. It is something that should be part of your daily routine now and forever more.
