Have you ever dreaded turning on the news channel? If you do, you’re part of a bigger statistic that harbors the same feeling. Although many people want to watch news broadcasts, some TV watchers avoid such programs. They complain that every news article they see on TV is about bad events. Major news channels seem to focus solely on bad news, that’s why most TV watchers end up feeling apathetic or even depressed. If you’ve listened to enough bad news, it’s time to take action. You can do something meaningful for society by turning off the TV and doing something meaningful. You can pool your resources and start a nonprofit group for a community or a school. While starting a charitable group sounds daunting enough, you also have to prepare for some accounting tasks because the state will need a report about your income and expenses. The following are some Q&As you should consider. Where do I begin? You can begin your pursuit by gathering as much help as you can. One of the concerns of a nonprofit organization is managing the books. If you have friends who are lawyers or accountants, it’s best to sit down and discuss with them how you can best handle your accounting nonprofit needs. Tell them your projections and ask for their professional feedback. You may also wish to attend seminars and lectures on basic accounting topics. How do I get help? If you have to delegate some tasks as you get busier, you will eventually need at least a bookkeeper who can perform accounting for nonprofit organizations. You’ll need a trustworthy person with sound knowledge about what taxes must be filed and which exemptions apply. At the initial stages, you can probably do the bookkeeping as you’re still learning other tasks. However, you may eventually need someone else to handle this for you as your organization’s work expands. rnShould I hire or rely on volunteerism? It depends on your organization’s financial means. While some volunteers can give time to organize your accounting nonprofit books, most volunteers may not be able to devote as much time and energy into this compared to a hired worker. For best results, why not encourage volunteerism first for the first few months and see how this goes later. If you are not satisfied with the results, you may choose to hire a person for this position.
