A thrift store is a great way to put up money for your charitable institution. As we are aware of, most charitable institutions only operate through sponsorships and funding from the government. But as the population increases inside the home, so would the expenses needed to operate it. These days, thrift stores have become popular among locals so it would be a good idea to tap into that.

The items being sold inside a thrift store are not necessarily secondhand goods only. You can also try to sell brand new items. But in both cases, what's critical is finding a good source for the goods so that you can be sure to have enough items to sell. You can try to ask from your own networks or put up an advertisement that says you are willing to take on pre-loved items.

Another challenge which you may likely face is to try to see where these items can be sold. If you decide to build a shop, you would have to be ready to pay the lease or rent if you are to have one elsewhere. So to help cut down on the expenses, it would be nice if you can just put one up on the same place where your charity institution is.

When it comes to pricing, it would be good to take note of the kind of items that you sell. Since these are things that have been pre-owned, and the buyers would know that, you would have to peg them for a lower price.

With a limited budget on-hand, you should also consider that marketing would be an important aspect of your business. It would be good to jot down the things that you need—flyers, brochures, map instructions, etc. With a limited amount on-hand, you should also try to build on personal contacts and networks so you can spread word about your thrift store.

This may also be the best time for you to revive those networks and contacts you have. Other charity events are held where you can also put up a mini store where you can showcase your items.

Finally, make sure you also take note of the manpower essentials. Keep in mind that it's not just about the items per se. You would also need to have time to figure out if you have enough people to get the shop running.

To make a thrift store last long, you should also look at the overall quality you provide. It's not enough that you keep the place clean. You should also ensure that there is excellent customer service that is being provided.
