Is civilization a curse or blessing? Trends, fads, new things and new ways come and go. Some of these actually leave indelible marks on the society, which are either damaging or perfecting. What happened to the good values of the past that were built on good intentions and sweat of founding parents? Etiquette is the guiding light of the society. Manners, decorum, and virtues are all words that describe positive character. What happened to appreciation, gratitude, truthfulness, kindness, trust and many more? They are gone with the wind, replaced by vices, like ingratitude, lying, rudeness, haughtiness, and some others that have become the bane of society.

Thank you, Yes Madam/Sir, have vanished from our culture like wild lilies that are seen in the morning and they are wilted and gone by night. The Diaspora has suddenly become a breeding place, for tyrants, liars, perpetrators of evil and shameless people who will do anything for few minutes of fame. How do we then regain our lost divine heritage, creating a new world and a new society built on good values? The following suggestions may lead us on a path to illumination.

1. Become a social activist for Etiquette
2. Start with yourself and your household
3. List out values that build good character
4. Make a decision to change
5. Always think before you act
6. Imbibe values that uplift
7. Humble yourself, pride comes before destruction
8. Know that you and I can, create a better world
9. Build, rather than destroy
10. Now is the time, let’s do it!
