Believe it or not this is true. We all like to roll our eyes when we are kids at our poor dear old mothers who are for the most part clueless. Or at least that’s what we thought then…flash forward fifteen years and here we are, actually acknowledging the advice they so readily gave. I call it Weight Loss 101- Motherstyle.
It seems like every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to lose weight and wants to do it as quickly as possible. The truth is there is no right or wrong way to losing weight and there’s no foolproof diet that works the same for everyone since each person responds to weight loss differently.
Here are 5 tips that my mother told me that might just help you reach your ideal weight.
Tip #1: Dedicationr
Be committed and dedicate the time needed to lose weight. This means planning your meals and cooking ahead. My mother always made a list when she went food shopping. I thought why? Maybe she is forgetful I thought. Nope, that’s not it. She would buy only what was on the list and nothing else. No candy, no specials that were on sale…nothing. She would then go home and cook with only those ingredients for the rest of the week. She had a set menu for dinner that she alternated every week to avoid boredom. She saved time and calories in the process.
Tip #2: Portion Controlr
Portion sizes have ballooned during the past few decades. My mother served all meals on small plates. I thought then…wow, she’s cheap. That wasn’t it. She was practicing what we now know as portion control. Increasing sizes in portions is now believed to be a leading cause for the obesity epidemic.1 While indulging in oversized portions once in awhile is harmless (except for the feeling that you want to throw up), doing it regularly will increase your waistline considerably. Keep it small and keep in control.
Tip #3: Get Movingr
Get off the couch my mom constantly yelled. I thought she just wanted to clean. She had the right ideas though. Getting off the couch and moving about will boost your calorie burn and help you reach your weight loss goals sooner. In addition to burning calories, you’ll decrease your risk of developing certain medical conditions and lengthen your lifespan. The accepted nostrum is 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most, if not all, days of the week. Make sure you vary your workouts by combining cardiovascular exercise like running or biking with strength training and flexibility training.
Tip #4: Seek Support
My mom told me to go out and be with my friends. Seek out your friends or your spouse, a colleague ,or an online support group, or a trainer, and make sure you have someone to talk to and share your feelings, frustrations, triumphs and yes, also someone who will hold you accountable. It should be someone who will listen to you and encourage you to go on with your weight loss journey. People who share with friends or family members while they are trying to lose weight are more likely to stick with it and more likely to keep it off.2
Tip #5: Garcinia Cambogiar
My mom told me to take my vitamins every morning. Supplementation has evolved since then. Today, there are hundreds of brands, all claiming miraculous things. We found a great weight loss aid called Garcinia Cambogia. This extract is known to contai
HCA which has great weight loss properties. Make sure you check your supplement to ensure it only contains natural ingredients with no added fillers or calcium.
