Birth control pills and other oral contraceptive pills are basically designed to prevent pregnancy. These are prescription medications which are composed of synthetic hormones. The hormones interfere with your menstrual cycle to prevent unplanned pregnancy. A woman become pregnant when an egg is fertilised by the sperm released from the man’s body. Birth control pills works by modifying the female sex hormones so that no ovary is released from egg and so pregnancy doesn’t occur. There are two types of contraceptive pills-Combined contraceptive pill and mini-pills. Combined contraceptive pills are a combination of synthetic oestrogen and progestogen hormones, while the mini pills are only composed of only progestogen. The presence of just progestogen in the mini pill doesn’t affect its performance. It remains as effective as other contraceptive pills. The artificial female hormones make the body believe that ovulation has occurred so that no egg is released from the ovary. Secondly, it thickens the cervical mucus so that sperm is unable to enter the womb, and lastly it thinners the womb lining so that no egg is able to attach itself. In this way, the fertilisation of the egg does not happen and a woman doesn’t become pregnant. These pills have proven to be practically 100% effective so far. The most common and popular contraceptive pills are Yasmin contraceptive pill and Cerazette pill.
Yasmin:Yasmin pill are widely used by women who are above 18 years of age. It gives you immediate protection from pregnancy, as soon as you take it on the first day of your period. In some case, it can also be taken up to the fifth day of your menstrual cycle, but during that week you need to use some other contraception methods like condoms. The best thing about Yasmin is reduces the risk of weight gain or water retention in the body, as it may happen with other oral contraceptives. It also treats acne problem along with improving the appearance of skin. All this happens because of the synthetic hormones present in this pill. This pill is absolutely not suitable for you if you have a medical history of strokes, jaundice, abdominal or vaginal bleeding, any kind of blood clot, uterine or breast cancer, kidney and liver disease, or high blood pressure.
Cerazette:Cerazette is often referred to as a mini pill because it is composed of only a single synthetic hormone called progestogen, but is still as effective as any other oral pill. It is considered a better option for all those women who experience adverse effects because of oestrogen hormone. It reduces the pain during period and is a great relief for all the sufferers of dysmenorrhea. Cerazette should be taken once a day, for the entire month. However, if you any day you forget to take the pill at the right time, you can take it up to 12 hours from the normal time. The intake of Cerazette can sometimes show some common side-effects like nausea, headache, vomiting, abdominal pain and decreased libido. You should consult a doctor before taking any oral contraceptive pills.
