The origin of the name Jerez is Sherry which is the region’s lucrative production of fine wine. Jerez de la Frontera is more fondly called Jerez. It is famous for its production of sherry. The sherry quality from Jerez differs from other two sherry production towns; namely, Sanlucar and El Puerto.

Jerez has plenty of sherry vineyards to make it an established commercial winery industry over time. This industry commenced during the Anlo-Andaluz generations and thrives today with a high social status yielding good economics gains.

Jerez has an established equestrian school that offers many high quality breeds of horses for racing and performance. There are numerous stables at this school with beautifully decorated carriages that are well maintained for the school’s use.

Horses are trained to perform at special functions and many tourists have been delighted with the school’s weekly training performances every Thursday. The very polished equestrian show has horses and trainers moving to the lively Spanish music. Its performers are dressed in costumes from the 17th century.

Relojes museum is an interesting museum that houses many of Europe’s best art collection in a great diversity. The 300 art pieces are from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Jerez Fiestas

There are two special fiestas which are celebrated in Jerez annually. The first is the Jerez Horse fair and the second is the Otoño fiesta. The former is impressive with lots of European traders coming as active participants since the Middle Ages. This is the place where well bred horses are sold with a simple act of holding the horse’s reigns to confirm the sale.

The Fiestas de Otoño is a festival that is celebrated together with Feria de Caballo; hence, the celebration of these combined festivals is very large and festive. There is much festivity with vibrant merry making to delight the large crowd that comes from near and far.
