To a person not well-versed in the science of sports, gold would seem to be pretty easy. You just walk on a well-maintained park for four hours and knock a ball into a hole 18 times over, right? I can understand why someone would get this impression. No, watching golf on television does not exactly make golf look as physically taxing as, say, rugby. Indeed, it’s not. Nor would I expect these people to understand that golf is a sport that these athletes do train quite rigorously for, apart from just knocking balls into a hole. But in fact, there are several exercises anyone who is looking to improve their golf game should be doing on a regular basis. Golf is a physical activity that really does require a lot of stamina, concentration, poise and strength. There are several exercises that the pros regularly engage in to improve all of those. Getting a good initial drive does require a lot of strength. If you have little to no muscle build, the chances are pretty slim that you’re going to be hitting a drive like Jack Nicklaus. There are numerous exercises to increase a golfer’s power. They don’t entail lifting excessively heavy weight or explosive ballistic workouts, however. According to certified trainer Katherine Roberts, “A guy who is very strong but lacking in mobility and flexibility won’t be able to bring his body and muscles to a full range of motion.” If you’re looking to increase your power for your golf swing, the best exercises include crunches, twists and dumbbell lifting. Even an exercise as simple as extending your arms to the side and clasping your hands repetitively as fast as possible will prove to be beneficial. Novice golfers should also be looking at exercises that will provide their mechanics. Your shot may be powerful, but why does it always land in the trees? The inclination for golfers in this predicament is to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a new driver or to dedicate a lot of time to the driving range. Neither of those are going to accomplish what needs to be done, which is for your body to adapt and adjust to the proper motions. In order to improve your mechanics, the best recommended exercises include twists and stretches. One of the most optimal exercises to improve your mechanics is known as the rear delt exercise. For this one, lie face down on a swiss ball with your feet firmly planted and together. Roll your chest off the ball and lift your arms into the air five to ten times. Then rest one minute and repeat. This exercise is meant to allow for greater extension in your backswing. The best golfers in the world know that their game would suffer would it not be for their increased flexibility. No golfer is going to advance very far if they can’t negotiate the shoulder to hip rotation properly. Indeed, this might be the most important component of a successful golf swing. Exercises that will help you increase your flexibility and find that perfect rotation once again include numerous twist exercises and stretches. The window washer exercise is one of the best exercises for increasing flexibility. Simply lie down on the ground face up and spread your legs so they are more than hip length apart. Bend your knees, and then lower your knees from side to side ten times. This stretch releases the hips, quads and oblique abdominal muscles. Training to be a golfer is not the same as training to be a runningback. Jack Nicklaus still wouldn’t be playing if that were the case. But there are several, simple exercises anyone can do to improve their golf game. If you’re interested in Branson golf courses and Branson resorts, check these out.
