In the story of the tortoise and the hare, the tortoise wins the race by being more consistent and methodical than the sprinting hare. This a wonderful analogy to the difference between search engine optimization (SEO) and a pay-per-click (PPC) campaign. Unlike the fantasy race, both are winners in Internet marketing, but in the long-term SEO is what your clients really need to achieve success online.

Web designers who provide SEO services not only provide an additional service for their clients, but SEO becomes a new source of revenue to them. How? By outsourcing SEO services at a reasonable fee and reselling it at a higher one. The formula for providing better client services through SEO outsourcing equals higher revenues for web design services and their clients.

A quick word about PPC advertising. It is an excellent method for jump-starting a site's hits, but when the advertising campaign ends so will the hits. SEO is a permanent way to get traffic, but it takes time to generate momentum. Many SEO outsourcing companies can educate you and your clients about the benefits of a PPC campaign and manage it as well.

By outsourcing SEO you can provide the following expert SEO services under your brand name: a pre-determined number of inbound links for your client, a customized ranking report under your logo and do this with minimal disruption to a client site (as changes are usually to title tags and meta information) and help in key word choice.

Internet marketing is big business. SEO rankings do matter, and by outsourcing SEO work you provide an edge for your client. Most SEO firms also provide PPC management, so you can get your client hits from day one of the client's site launching. But any honest search engine marketing firm will tell you that PPC is a quick fix, and in the long run SEO has a better return on investment. Outsourcing your SEO campaigns allows you, the designer, the flexibility of finding a firm that performs well and is a good fit for you.

As a designer you may wonder if outsourcing SEO makes sense. It does. By consulting with an SEO firm in at the beginning of site development, content and design advice will help improve your client's search engine rankings.
