Pondicherry is situated along the Coromandel Coast of Bay of Bengal. It is renowned across the globe for its palm fringed beaches, mosques, churches and many historical monuments. Pondicherry is located in Tamil Nadu at a distance of about 160 km to the south of Chennai. It was a former French colony. After independence it became one of the Union Territories of India. Its interwoven charm of spiritual ambience, scenic natural beauty and French colonial heritage make it a worth to visit.

Aurobindo Ashram

In this ashram, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother spent their time. They indulged in the practice of the upliftment of society. Today this ashram has become a centre of yoga preaching. Apart from yoga, the spiritual seekers also engage in productive activities like cultivation, trade, art and culture.

Auroville

This is a universal town which is a real example of community living. It is known as the 'City of Dawn'. People form different nationalities, beliefs and culture live in harmony here. The city boasts of having people of 35 countries. A major attraction of Auroville is Matrimandir which is a modern architectural marvel. With a globe of 30 meters height and lotus-shaped foundation urn, rnit grabs the attention of the visitors.

Raj Niwas

This is an impressive regal building which is built in traditional French style. It was the dwelling of Joseph Fancois Dupleix. Presently it is the house of the Lieutenant, the Governor of Pondicherry.

Navagraha Temples

Navagraha Temples are popular tourist attractions of Pondicherry. Navagraha is a Sanskrit word which means nine planets. According to Hindu astrology theses nine planets are cosmic influencers. The beautiful temple is dedicated to the nine planets. To worship these nine planets, there are nine different temples. These had been constructed in an admirable architectural style.

Botanical Garden

This beautiful garden was built in the year 1826. You can find here numerous plants from the different regions of the nation. You can relax and listen to the twittering of birds and explore the refreshing flora. Here you will also find the plants from destinations like Ceylon and Reumian.

Bharatidasan Museum

This museum reminds of a poet Kanaksubburatnam who write down under the name of Bharatidasan. He reached same zenith in poetry as Bharati had achieved. His residence at Perumal Koil road has been converted into a museum.

Besides all these popular attractions, Pondicherry is also a worth-visiting place for its beaches. The stunning view of beaches allows you to enjoy the leisure in a soothing ambience.
