The Alaknanda the snow feed river of the mighty Himalaya is tucked in the state of 27th State of Uttarakhand, India, which is one of the two headstreams the Ganges, which is the major river of Northern India and the holy river of Hinduism. This major water source of Holy Ganges rises at the confluence and feet of Bhagirath Kharak glaciers of Satopanth in Uttarakhand. After joining the Bhagirathi River at Devprayag it flows for about 190 km (118.1 miles) by the heart of the Alaknanda valley. Its main tributaries are the Mandakini, Nandakini, and Pindar rivers. This majestic river also follows in the Chamoli, Tehri and Pauri districts of Uttarakhnad. Mythology:- It is said that Goddess Ganga descended to earth from heaven it is believed that Alaknanda have split off from the celestial Ganges as she came down to earth. This snow feed waterway merges with the sacred river of Hindus at Devprayag, and from here it is called as Ganges or Ganga. Badrinath one for the four sacred dhams of Hindu is situated on the bank of the Alaknanda River. Alaknanda rafting is one of the favorite destinations among adventure lovers who like to rip through the white water of the majestic source of Ganaga. Place to Visit:- One of the important places to visit here is the natural lake called Lake Satopanth. The important feature of this lake is that it is triangular shape and tucked at a of 4402 meters above the sea level and named after the Hindu trinity Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva. Nanda Devi is the second highest point of India is located in the Alaknanda basin. It is located 7,816 m above the sea level. Badrinath, one of the four sacred holy destinations of Hindus pilgrimages, is located near the river Alaknanda at a height of 3,415 metres above the sea level. This tiny little holy tow is bounded by Nar and Narayan and Neelkanth peak is in the back. The best time to visit here is from the month of May to October.
