The demand for English teachers in Asian countries has skyrocketed in the last couple of years. This increase can be attributed to the fact that most parents are driven by the desire to see their children learn how to speak the language while employers want to ensure that employees can interact and communicate with business associates at an international level. If you have ever considered teaching English in a foreign country, you should consider teaching in Korea.

Korea has a plethora of teaching options available for those who are proficient in English. Locals who don’t speak the language are encouraged to learn it and corporations have been known to encourage their employees to learn as well. Furthermore the Korean Government has made the study of English mandatory in both the elementary and high school education systems. There are also private schools that place a greater level of importance on learning the language, dedicating more time to its study. Essentially there are a variety of academic settings you can find yourself in.

For you to teach in Korea, you actually don’t need any prior teaching experience. While most companies prefer those with a University degree, it is not necessarily required. Rather, you simply need to have the passion to lean (and teach!) coupled with a communicative nature and patience. It is not easy to teach a language to people when you don’t speak their language. Regardless, the benefits associated with teaching in Korea can be enjoyed at a personal and financial level, making this an exciting opportunity. In cases of the former, it is possible to travel the world and enjoy what it has to offer and in cases of the latter, the perks and monetary benefits that come with the position are simply enormous.

There are different types of options offered to teachers in accordance to the schools where they teach. For the purpose of ensuring that teachers enjoy their stay in Korea, most jobs will find you an apartment and cover some if not all of your housing expenses. They will ensure your place is located within walking distance to the schools and more often than not, they are fully furnished. For instance, they might have eating and cooking utensils, table, chairs, bed and fridge among other necessities.

Those teaching in Korea who have exceeded a 12-month contract are also given a severance package in accordance to the school they are teaching in. This is also known as completion bonus and it is often the equivalent of one month’s salary. The amount of tax deducted from the salary of teachers is very low compared to most countries, and tax is deducted from teacher’s monthly salary. Teachers in public schools are also exempt from paying tax during their first two months of employment. The salary offered to those who teach in Korea is also competitive, though the amount will vary in accordance to the location where one teaches as well as their qualifications. There are countless other benefits that come with teaching in Korea and furthermore it is a beautiful and unique country to spend time in. A world leader in the technology sector, Korea has many magnificent places to explore and discover in your time off. Truly an experience of a lifetime, you may be surprised at how quickly you fall in love with the country.
