Located in Rajasthan, Ranakpur is a beautiful region. Noted for marble temples, the region is worth visiting. Dipped in the deep rooted tradition, Ranakpur lies in the Pali district. Nestled in the Aravali range, Ranakpur is around 60 km away from Udaipur. Recognized as the 'City of Temples', Ranakpur enjoys warm weather. In winters, temperature ranges between 11° and 20° Celsius and require cosy clothes. Exploring Ranakpur in summers may force you to face temperature between 38° to 42° Celsius. Best time to visit the region is between the months of September and March.

This ancient city is a prime pilgrimage place for Jain devotees. Apart from devotees, heritage admirers and beauty lovers also visit this small village. Another reason that draws attention of tourists from all over the world is age-old tradition.

The main attraction of the village is Jain temple complex. According to the belief, the vision of great Jain temples belongs to Dha
a Shah, who approached Rana Khumba for its establishment. Sprawled over an area of around 48,000 square km, the temple complex has 1444 columns. Noted for distinct architecture, the temple is spacious and speaks volume about the art and creativity. It houses two large bells. The bells weigh around 108 kg each. According to the belief, sound of these two bells produces echo and purifies the complex whenever enchanted. Use of light marble in construction made it more appealing.

Another important temple of Ranakpur is 'Sun Temple'. This is one of the architecture wonders that dates back to the 13th century CE. Rebuilt in 15th century, the temple looks beautiful. This east- facing temple stands exactly opposite to the main temple of Ranakpur. Sanctum and an octogonal mandapa are the two highlights of the temple. Sculpted images of the God and exquisitely carved pillars inside the mandapa are unique and deserve a visit.

Tourists visiting Ranakpur can also visit another grand temple complex. 29 halls and around 1444 pillars of the temple complex made it popular amongst the visitors. Dedicated to Jain Thirthankara Adinatha, the temple dates back to fifteenth century.

All these temples are made up of marble. Beautifully carved these temples are the specimens of great devotion and dedication of the people of bygone era. There are several other temples in Ranakpur that deserve a visit. Most of these belong to Jain community and attract tourists from Jain religion but there are some temples in the village that house different Hindu deities.
