And that is where you found yourself at lost. What are you supposed to write? You know that you cannot just leavle this box blank. Let's make this clear High school students are usually bent on studying, knowing that their academic performance can significantly influence their university likeability meter. It is true that grades are essential. Universities want students to be responsible. On the other hand, there are other equally essential factors than academic figures, that could put more weight to your application. You earning straight As would not secure a spot in ivy leagues or state universities. You achieving Cs and Ds but with active participation in several extra curricular activities would not also do the trick. Make everything balanced. No one thing is more important than the other. You cannot focus on your studies alone, and set aside extra curriculars. You cannot devote all your time playing for school chorale and not care about how your grades wind up. It’s not about the quantity You can join several extra curricular activities but at the end still not improve on anything. Panelists want to know about which you are passionate about, and if you did anything to pursue and develop it. Generally, panelists are not interested with how many organizations you did but how those engagements have helped shaped you. For instance, how long were you a member of say the drum and lyre club? Have you been elected as an officer on your second year? Have you led the team to a major performance? Were you voted as the president on your senior year? Don’t join you are only planning to quit the next year and then try another organization. Commitment is one attitude that panelists want to see in you, and which you would not show when you keep on quitting clubs. Well-rounded students, that’s what they're after Universities want to form a diverse student body. They are not just looking for the academically gifted ones. They also want students that have contributed to the development of their community or school. They do not just want individuals who can perfect exams. They also appreciate students that take time out of their busy schedule in school to take part in activities that are dedicated to helping others. You do not secure a slot in college admissions just because your grades are high. Versatility and leadership skills are also essential. Colleges want students who do not just engage in binge drinking when there are no classes. They want people who initiate engaging in worthwhile activities, and are willing to take on responsibilities. When the extracurricular counts Saying you joined this and that club would not make an impressive extracurricular activity. Listing down that you have written for the school paper also would not help you that much to make it to the cut. You need not earn awards from regional journalism competitions. But when you have written something so significant, say you lobbied that a hydration station be installed in the campus, then that is an extracurricular activity that matters. You can also join an outreach activity and volunteer as a tutor for elementary students.Share tips you learned about writing academic papers effectively. You may also propose or organize essay writing camps and share tips you have read at http://www.a-writer.com/essay_writer.php to your schoolmates. Don't overdo it, have fun While most, if not all students know that it is best to begin preparing for college admissions as early as the first days of high school, only few are able to do so. When you are already there, make it a point to enjoy yourself. Don’t make it seem like you are compelled to do things just so universities will like you. Extracurriculars are supposed to be fun.
