The day that Facebook will go public on the stock market will be historic for many, but others consider it a cause for alarm. What influence will this move have on the social website that has become such an integral part of everyday life for so many people? It is probably much too early to say for sure, but there’s the sad chance that it could destroy all of the elements that made Facebook so great to start with. People enjoy surfing Facebook since it offers an opportunity to file old friends and meet new ones in a broad online utility. This consistent change in style, layout design and applications surprises regular visitors, who get accustomed to the current state of the site and don't want to have unpredictable change. But, these fluid changes have enabled the website to be renown as the phenomenal tool that it is. Now that Facebook is a publicly-traded commodity, its themes will probably have to shift. Its main concern will become profit in place of giving users a better website. This could slow down site reformatting, which will be a relief for many, but without those constant retools, it could get to feel outdated. Aside from the battle between profit and innovation, however, there is the issue of advertising, and that is where the really big problem lies. Advertising brings Facebook its revenue, so it is essential to its success and will be even more so in the future. People who’ve grown used to Facebook and don't want to betray it might suddenly find themselves flooded by advertising tailored to them based on their hobbies. Because many people have been online for half a decade already, there’s been plenty of time to collect info about them as they innocuously posted links. It does not seem so irrelevant now, and the expanding worries about privacy might be enough to drive page users away. The more who leave, the more others will leave as their idea of the network falls apart. This series of events might knocking on death’s door if Facebook turns into nothing but one major advertising platform. Currently, the ads are there but don't get in the way much. This could prove to be an important transformation in the site’s evolution. However, it might also foreshadow its downfall. Will the masses of surfers who attached themselves to Facebook faily be so ambivalent with the new approaches that they leave? Would Zuckerberg ever dare to charge a fee for certain features? These are the questions that bother users with the wake of Facebook's public stock offering.
