Many years ago, if you wished to look like your favorite celebrity or at least have the same nose, cheeks or figure, you’d have to content yourself with daydreams because that’s impossible to come true. Now though, with all the developments in technology and the breakthroughs in cosmetic science, it is common for people to go through cosmetic surgery if they want to look more like Angelina Jolie or Julia Roberts. Cheek and lip enhancement are two of the most in-demand facial contouring surgeries today.
Lip Augmentation
The most popular features of the two world-famous actresses mentioned above are their lips. So many women would like to have the same plump, seductive lips as Angelina or the girl-next-door smile of Julia, that’s why they go through lip augmentation surgery. This is a very short procedure that can be done in a beauty clinic because technically, it isn’t a surgical procedure. Most of the time, this is done by injecting augmentation substances on strategic locations right on the lips. The most popular substance is collagen and Restylane.
There is also a surgical version of this procedure, and it involves implanting dermalogen (substance taken from the skin of the patient himself) or alloderm (tissue taken from a donor) on the lips, creating the desired plumpness. This is certainly a more complicated procedure. It is also similar to the corrective and contouring procedure done for cleft palette patients.
Cheek Enhancement
There are also other women who want to have plumper cheeks, rather like the very charming Holliday Grainger. People with very high cheekbones tend to have hollowed cheeks when they lose weight or as they grow older. They lose the natural roundness of their face, and most of the time that makes them look very ste
and older than their actual age. Traditionally, people would just go through botox or skin rejuvenation to look younger, but for some people they need to soften the angles of their faces. One way to do that is to have cheek enhancement procedure.
This can also be an alternative for people who want to have more prominent cheekbones. Cosmetic surgeons don’t shape the bone itself. They can just augment the apple of the cheeks and shape the fat below that to resemble the lines of cheekbones. This removes sagging cheeks and restores the fresh, youthful look of the patient.
The procedure is pretty much the same as lip enhancement. Of course, it covers a much larger area and will therefore require a higher amount of augmentation substance or implants. (Body fat can also be used in place of substances.) It all depends on what the surgeon recommends for you after several consultations and substance compatibility tests.
Before going through either or both cheek and lip enhancement, it is important to carefully consider the implications of the procedures. Besides weighing the risks, you also need to think about what you’ll look like in the end. These cosmetic procedures will have long-term effects, if not permanent. This is therefore something that must be done only by experienced cosmetic surgeons, and only after very careful thinking on the patient’s part.
