It has about a hundred types and among them one of the most dangerous types of cancer is breast cancer. As obvious from name this cancer starts in breasts, which are more developed structure in women than men because of it specific function that is manufacturing milk for breast feeding.
Estrogen and progesterone are hormones present in females for development of breasts. Women breast is composed of ducts, lobules, nipples, fibrous tissues, areolas, and fat. Ducts are the piping to draw milk, while lobules produce milk.
In most of the cases breast cancer starts in ducts, and then start invading the other organs. Its late detection is the biggest hurdle in the way of its successful cure, but if it detected earlier, not only its curability is confirmed but there are 98% chances of surviving up to five years after treatment.
The very fact is that no women want to be diagnosed with this cancer, then to reduce the risk of breast cancer it is important to know the factors which are directly or indirectly contributing to breast cancer development. It’s evident that some factors are uncontrolled but there are some factors which are in your control to minimize the risk of breast cancer. Factors controlled or uncontrolled are discussed below to be aware of them.
Personal history of this disease
A woman once who had breast cancer is at high risk of this disease reappearance. As the breast cancer has the ability to spread to other body organs so it is difficult to control it from recurrence. In some cases it can’t be completely treated that also results in form of appearing again after some time of its early treatment
Growing age
Growth in age is directly and positively correlated with breast cancer risk. Most of the women diagnosed with breast cancer every year belong to the age group above fifty. Nearly 80%of breast cancers develop in women above fifty.
Gender
Gender is the most leading uncontrolled factor responsible for breast cancer development. Men are however diagnosed with breast cancer but this disease is very rare in them, at the same time women are highly vulnerable to this cancer because of the specified breast structure and function in them.
Family history
Family history has to play a vital role in catching this disease. Women with close relatives affected with this disease are exposed to it.
Mutations in genes
Genetic mutations are the changes occurring in genes. But when these changes get abnormal and hence pass to the next generations, then the risk of this disease becomes higher in them.
Hormonal changes
Hormonal changes which may cause breast cancer are the variations and exposure length of female estrogen hormone and progesterone. Longer will be the exposure of women breasts to estrogen, higher will be the chances of breast cancer.
There are many other factors which can increase risk of this disease like eating habit, smoking, alcohol consumption, and radiation exposure. To fight this disease successfully, it is important to do whatever is possible in best ways.
