In common cases, women are seen complaining about rib pain during pregnancy. This is generally experienced during the third trimester stage of this period. Females mainly experience tenderness or bruising in such areas. This leads to extreme discomfort which affects both the sides especially the right portion of the ribs. It is said that as the uterus starts advancing, severe pain is experienced in the inner part & under this region. As the phases of pregnancy succeeds, our abdomen starts more stretching which is associated with the widening of the uterus both in the upward & outward part. This leads the pelvic region as well as the abdominal area to be completely occupied thereby not allowing any space for the baby to developed & gets stuffed under the ribs & chest. This overloaded pressure, mainly from the baby leads to shortness of the breath of the female. Such immense pressure on the ribs & diaphragm also leads to extreme pain in the shoulder area & this pain certainly arises due to the affected nerves in the diaphragm related to the shoulders. This can also lead to the constipation or reflux of the acid due to the squeezing activity pressurized by the baby on the abdomen. During this stage, the shape of the breast also gets enlarged, thus pressure of this enlargement is also executed on the ribs. This extra pounds leads to the down-pulling of the shoulders & more pressure is exerted on the upper region of the back, neck & rib cage (in rare cases). The body prepares itself naturally for the proper delivery of the baby, thus letting your hormones rigorously preparing it & thereby allowing losing the essential muscles & ligaments. This activity of loosening can make a slight shift of the ribs adding to the discomfort. This can be misunderstood but the true fact is that it is expanding so as to allow more adequate space for the baby & accelerate the rate & quality of breathing & lung efficiency. Such pain during this development can occur during sitting which can be easily overcome by making effective practices of carrying out proper & effective posture. You can try the perception of sitting straight with the shoulders pulled back. Bending can lead to compression of the abdomen & thereby causing more pain. When you hold the arms over your head, such exercise can relief some pressure off from your body but this is temporary & there is lifting of the ribs away.
