Tamilnadu is one of the most important tourist destinations of not only India but also the world. Famous cities in Tamil Nadu offer numerous points of interests for visitors.

With a panoramic landscape and numerous places of tourist interests, Tamil Nadu is the southernmost state of India and the only one touching the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea at one point; Kanyakumarika. Golden shiny sea beaches, fabulous hill stations, abundance of flora and fauna in wildlife sanctuaries and a host of temples are there. In addition; there are many historic sites and shopping centers as well. It is no wonder that Tamil Nadu has assumed second place on the tourist map of India.

However that is not all about Tamil Nadu. In addition to the sea beaches, hill stations, temples, shopping centers, and heritage sites, it has much more to offer. In fact it has something to offer for every type of visitors irrespective of their ethnicity, gender or age.

Though Pondicherry is not exactly part of the state being a separate administrative entity, still it is considered to be part of the Tamil Nadu tourism because it is surrounded from all sides by the States and in the past was a part of it.

36 largest metropolitan cities of the world and one of the four largest in the country, Chennai is located on the eastern Coromandel Coast of India. For most overseas visitors it is the gateway to South India and Dravidian culture and South Indian customs, tradition, and heritage. Most popular site in Chennai is the Marina beach with long spread of golden sands and white foaming waves breaking on the coast. Apart from these there are Thirumalai Thirupathi Devasthanam Temple, Fort St. George, Vivekananda Ice House, Guindy National Park, Madras Museum, and Thousand Lights Mosque etc that attracts thousands of visitors every day. Chennai is also well communicated by air, rail, and road with all other parts of the country including all South Indian States.

Other Major Cities

Among other major Cities in Tamilnadu are Ooty that is known as the queen of hill stations in South India and Coimbatore that is considered to be the gateway and junction point for tours of Ooty, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.

Pondicherry is the location of international village at Auroville. Kanyakumari is the unique junction point of Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea. Madurai is the location of world famous Meenakshi Devi Temple whereas Tiruchirapalli and Tanjore are historical places.
