There are many of us that enjoy designing clothing, and we may feel that we have the best clothing that is out there, perhaps even better than much of what is available in the larger retailers. The fact of the matter is, however, unless you are able to get yourself in front of a fashion buyer that is able to make the decision to use your clothing, all of your efforts may be somewhat in vain. Of course, you may have an apparel buyer from smaller companies that are willing to run your line, but it is only after you are able to get into the larger stores, such as Macy's that you will be able to find true success. What are some of the things that you can do which will increase your odds of finding that success?

First of all, it never hurts to get your apparel into smaller boutiques in your local area. This can help to give you a boost and can really make a difference, especially if your clothing is well accepted. In order for you to get your clothing into those boutiques, however, you are going to need to familiarize yourself with their locations as well as their managers and employees. In doing so, they will know that you are serious when you finally approach them with your clothing line. In addition to showing your seriousness, getting to know them in advance can give you some valuable insight as to what they may be expecting from a clothing line.

If they are unwilling to accept your line out right, there are still some options that you may want to consider to get it into the stores. One of those is putting the clothes in the store on consignment. The amount of profits you are going to make from each sale is going to be less using this method, but it can help to display the popularity of those items. Additionally, selling the clothing wholesale to the boutique is also an option that you may want to consider. Unlike selling it on consignment, you will always be paid for any clothing that is sold for a wholesale price.

Getting into the local boutiques also gives you the opportunity to market your line to the larger stores. Many of those stores keep their eye on small boutiques, particularly those that are more popular, for lines that they can use. If you have done the work in advance to make an impression on the boutique owner, it is more likely that they are going to push your line when those big apparel buyers come around. It also helps if you are able to attend any functions when they may be available. It helps to give your name some additional recognition that will go a long way when it comes to making a purchasing decision.

Be prepared to do your footwork and to be persistent in looking for a fashion buyer for one of the larger stores. It may take a year or more before you are recognized, but if it takes place as you wish, it can really be a boost your business.
