If you want to know the importance of branding, ask McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut or Domino’s Pizza. These companies have spent millions in creating the perfect mark for their corporations. And what’s the result? The result is that even a 10 year old from almost any part of the world knows what the golden arches represent. So what makes their fast food logos so popular and how can you apply some of their famous strategies for your local eat out place? Let’s learn from the masters of the game. We’ll start off with colors. What do Pizza Hut, Domino’s and KFC have in common? The red color in their logo designs. It is a known fact that colors affect your mood, perceptions and preferences. Psychologically, every color signifies a trait or quality that it can instigate in you. The colors that are popularly seen in the Quick Service industry are red and yellow. Red is a color that attracts instant attention and makes you hungry. It makes you energetic, excited and increases your heart beat due to which many restaurants use this color in their logos and décor. Yellow, on the other hand, is a color that symbolizes happiness, laughter and good times. Together, by using these colors in their trademarks, these corporations are subtly telling their customers that they are energetic, fun-loving and most importantly fast. Use of straight and easily readable fonts is popularly noticed in these famous business marks. But just to make things a little more interesting, they are placed at an alignment. Remember the Pizza Hut, subway, Burger King and Domino’s Pizza logo? What do they have in common? They’re all very easily readable and placed at an angle. So, what is the trend in the images? What kind of images have they used in their brand marks? Most of the famous food logos design has used minimal images. Their designs consist only of their company name accompanied by a small symbol or image. The quality that sets these business images apart from the crowd is their distinctness as they are not images of the type of eatables the offer. For example, Pizza Hut sells pizzas but their brand mark consists of a headwear, Hardees is famous for their thick burgers but it has a star in the logo and KFC has no crispy fried chickens in their business image. In a nutshell, through clever use colors, effects and images, these successful corporations have turned their company trademarks into branding weapons.
