Fasting Diet involves abstaining from solid foods for a period of time. Sometimes, juices and water are consumed to maintain hydration. Fasting diets have long been a part of many religions practices around the world with most religions boasting of a fasting diet at some periods during the year.

Pros for a Fasting Diet:

• Provides the body with a break from digestion
• Allows time for detox or the removal of toxins
• Promotes healing
• Said to reverse ageing
• Rheumatoid arthritis, migraine headache are some diseases that are lowered in intensity as a result of fasting diets
• Cold, flu obesity, colon disorders and allergies are some other acute problems that fasting can help
• Fasting for a day or two is fine
• Immunity boost is obtained
• Increases your willpower
• Greatly helps in losing weight as due to lack of carbohydrates, the fat stored is utilized to obtain energy
• High blood pressure usually drops and low blood pressure usually increases during the fast. Blood pressure should be closely monitored during the fast
Cons against a fasting Diet:

  • Depletes essential nutrients, minerals
  • Reduces energy
  • Fasting for longer periods of time while doing the same amount of work can lead to headaches and dizziness combined with weakness

Every diet has its share of pros and cons. It is upto the person to analyze what suit him best and avoid situation which compromise his well being. As each body reacts to a fasting diet differently, it is essential to first do a trial run of a fast before embarking on a full fledged one.
