Faulty Laptop Touchpads and the Best Way to Fix Them
Laptops do not have a mouse but include a touchpad; the owner uses this by dragging a fingertip across the pad rather than moving a mouse over a fixed surface. Yet, it often doesn't work properly either in part, or sometimes it may fail completely. The simple cure if this fails is to hook up an external computer mouse and use the laptop with no touchpad. The mouse pointer may well judder or generate really small movements that causes the cursor to leap among text letters. The most effective option is to disable or shut off the touchpad; there are two approaches to do this.
Lots of laptops employ a function key designed to enable and disable the touchpad. The F8 key together with the Fn button will often allow you to turn on or switch off the touchpad. If this does not work with your laptop start looking on the key legends of the function keys for which appears to be a pointing little finger; it's usually the key to press together with the Fn button. Search for a little switch frequently near the touchpad or on the side of the laptop case; this could control the touchpad. If your laptop seems not to have a touchpad turn off button or switch, then you can permanently disable it from your Control Panel of Windows. To eliminate click the Start Menu and select Control Panel, double-click on Mouse, click Device Settings, and then click Disarm. When you select OK the touchpad will be permanently disabled.
There is software that will help if the touchpad hasn't totally failed. When the touchpad induced the cursor to make small arbitrary fluctuations then this could help. You will find there's cost-free application identified as Touchfreeze which may prevent these annoying pointer actions when you're word processing. Touchfreeze turns off the touchpad only if you are using the keyboard, it will have no effect on the majority of touchpad movements and mouse clicks, etc. so will certainly not change the normal functioning of the laptop. If you are using a word processor and the pointer or cursor aimlessly jumps in between letters or lines, then Touchfreeze will eliminate this effect. This is often useful where you are using a properly functioning laptop, and then you by accident touch the touchpad while running a wordprocessor.
You may not be concerned if the touchpad stops working and judders the mouse cursor, or else you might find the software option works for you. If you always use your laptop at a fixed position on a desktop, for example, you may discover that an external USB computer mouse is acceptable all the time. However, if you do not have space for an external USB mouse, or else you want to use it when away from home, you will definitely want the touchpad mending or being replaced by a laptop repair expert.
