"I don't know what to do - I've been trying to make $4,000 in my business each month and it just isn't happening. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm very clear about my bold money goal and I even have it written out where I see it everyday. Plus I've designated a clear time frame to achieve it by. But I'm still struggling with making anything beyond a few hundred extra dollars. I'm just not sure what to do!"

My client was feeling extremely frustrated. And yet her situation isn't at all unique. You could substitute her income number with your own personal income goal and you've probably experienced similar anxiety with being stuck as well.

If you're ready to take an innovative and creative approach to achieving your desired income - instead of the mainstream conventional advice, I'd like to share what's worked for me for achieving "impossible goals." For me the secret lies in "shifting who I'm being."

By shifting who I'm being I literally shift how I perceive and interpret my situation around making more money. In order to do this I change the background conversations inside my head. I've noticed that my internal conversations guide my thoughts, which in turn create the feelings and emotions that I believe are describing the "truth about my situatio ".

In other words I recognize that my emotions are not "The Absolute, End-All, Be-All Truth"- but rather they are simply reflections of my thoughts. I can change my thoughts by choosing a more powerful internal conversation.

Here's a simple example of what I mean by this. I remember having a goal to achieve a certain income by the end of the month. Intellectually, I didn't think there was really anyway that I could possibly achieve it. But rather than resign to passivity I decided to go ahead and take action from my new commitment. This new commitment I decided to embody was "being an entrepreneur who was making $30,000/month in an easy, effortless, authentic way while making a difference for others".

Several times a day I would ask myself how that person would coach her clients, how she would talk to prospects or how she would do her marketing- and then I took the action from there.

My new conversation literally changed who I was "being" …which in turn changed my outer circumstances. The end result was that I did achieve my monthly goal - and it was astonishingly and surprisingly EASY.

There have been times when I thought I was having a powerful internal conversation by telling myself, "I'm going to make great money, …I know this is my month"- but deep down my real conversation (when I got completely honest with myself) was, "This is going to be a struggle, making money has always been a struggle for me." That was my REAL conversation, and that was the conversation that would impact my thoughts and feelings and ultimately the kind of actions that I took.
I could always tell if I was effectively "shifting who I was being," by noticing what kind of results showed up in my life. This is like the North Star of being honest with myself!

If I was achieving the outcomes that I said I wanted to achieve then I knew I had created a shift. If not, then I knew that at some level I was still committed to my limiting thoughts and beliefs and was stubbornly not willing to let go of them.

I have realized that if I stubbornly wait for proof or evidence that I can actually achieve my desired goals, that day will probably never arrive. I have to "get off" any conversation about my goals not being possible to achieve - and literally commit to a new one. And also, in order for any of this to be effective, I must take daily action from my new conversation!

It's normal to go back and forth and tell myself, "This isn't possible - who do I think I'm fooling anyway?" When this happens I simply recommit again to the possibility and the new conversation that I've created for myself and take action from there.

This is how I have successfully weaved the proverbial straw into gold in my life. Sometimes it's been around achieving robust five-figure months or breaking through into six-figures. Numbers are a fun way to measure success because they are such clear indicators of whether or not I've "succeeded." In the end however, I believe that achieving my income goals are a reflection of making a difference in the lives of others. For me this is the ultimate reward!
