Today more than 1.5 million people go the emergency rooms across America with chest pain, costing the healthcare system around 50 billion dollars every year. Heart disease is killing us more than any other single or group of causes. We have to get a handle on this vicious disease.

Many of us walk around everyday with heart disease and don't even know it. Signs and symptoms many times don't reveal themselves until it is too late.

There is a lot of prevention awareness and public awareness for breast cancer. I totally support all events to bring breast cancer awareness to the public. But the truth is that heart disease kills more women today than breast cancer. Unfortunately heart disease is not as well known as breast cancer and we need to get the word out.

Another crippling disease is diabetes. This disease wasn't as common as it is today. There are two types of diabetes.

Type I is when basically you are born with it or it becomes prevalent at a young age. Unfortunately there is not much we can do about preventing Type I diabetes.

Type II is the alarming type. Many years ago it was found in the older population mostly among people who abused themselves with alcohol and such. Not today the rate of diabetes is growing due to obesity, and the most alarming thing is it is now becoming more prevalent in children.

There are many risk factors that are not in our control. For example;nn- agenn- male or femalenn- race

But there is one risk factor that is in our control. Obesity is the number one risk factor and we have the control to change ourselves.

With proper diet and exercise you can reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Cutting out the fat that causes lipids streaks in your arteries is easier than you think. For example stay away from the white salad dressings or use low fat if you have to have the Ranch brand. Another weight gainer is soda. If you can cut the soda out of your diet you will lose weight.

Your exercise routine can be as little as walking three to four times a week. A consistent aerobic walk should be at least 30 minutes at a pace where you can feel it but you can still maintain a conversation with someone.

So eat right and get some exercise. Keep heart disease and diabetes away!

About the Author

I have spent my entire adult life being health conscious. My father was a victim of heart disease because he did not realize the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. I swore that I would never fall into that trap and began my education in fitness. While in the Navy I was a Hospital Corpsman and health was my business. Naturally since I was in pretty good shape I volunteered for assignment with the United States Marines at Camp LeJeune NC. In 1986 I screened for and was accepted into the training for 2D Reconnaissance Battalion. I was a Recon Corpsman for a good portion of my Navy career. I had three combat tours in my 20 year career. Desert Storm, Somalia, Operation Iraqi Freedom) I also volunteered and was accepted to the Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman School. This extensive school certified me to provide medical care Independent of a doctor while assigned for three years on a Naval Ship with the crew of around 350 Sailors. I was the "Doc" on the USS TICONDEROGA. I was always assigned the physical fitness Coordinator for the command. The facts I learned through my own self education and fundamental elements of Physical fitness from the Marines helped me train young men and women to be combat ready. Not only were they physically fit, but they were very confident. My mission for this website is not to make you combat ready. But I would like to share tricks that I have learned to stay motivated so that you stay in a routine of exercise. My commitment towards health and fitness were the drivers to develop Fitness and You Inc, www.your-fitness-trainer.com and www.yourfitnesspal.com I would like to help a many as I can through this website to maintain a healthier lifestyle so quality of life improves. Healthcare costs rise everyday. The best way to combat the costs are to get physically fit and stay healthy.

Movement is one of the most honest forms of self-connection. The body never lies. It holds stress, records emotion, and reveals when something feels off. For many, this is why exercise has always been more than fitness; it’s therapy through motion. But not all movement heals. Some styles exhaust, others distract. True healing often begins in the slow, intentional kind, the kind that lets the body lead and the mind follow.rnThat’s where precision-based training, such as re
