The last stage of pregnancy is sometimes frightful for many mothers. But a well-informed set of parents will hardly worry. This is the time when the mother’s body and the baby prepare for birth. A 37 weeks pregnant mother may suffer from acute labor pains. The doctor will keep a watch on the baby this time. If natural birth is possible, the doctor can go for delivery at this stage. If a caesarian delivery is predicted, then the doctor may prefer to wait for 2 more weeks as the baby’s lungs may not be prepared to adapt to the environment outside the womb. The baby by the 37 weeks pregnant condition is big enough to weigh up to 3 kg and measure up to 50 cm head to toe. The mother of course has to depend on shorter meals owing to the immense pressure from inside on the stomach. There will be more frequent lower back pain. The immune system of the baby starts to develop fully as the antibodies penetrate in through the placenta walls. The two weeks to follow for a mother 38 weeks pregnant is a patient game of wait and watch. The delivery may happen any time and the parents have to be prepared for that. The mother has to be kept under close surveillance and any discomfort has to be reported to the doctor immediately. The baby is now almost full in inside growth with the skeleton hardened and the tissues and internal organs having completed their initial growth. The lung development is almost complete to adapt to the atmosphere outside. The mental condition of the mother is very important now. The emotional quotient of the mother not only will help in keeping the baby happier but also will relieve the cramps and pains to a large extent. The mother must now keep her happy by a lot of reading about early child care after birth. Reading will keep the mother distracted from the discomfort and pain after 38 weeks regnant condition. The baby’s immune system develops finally through the antibodies from the mother’s blood, which is now almost half more than what it was when the pregnancy was initiated. Thus, what the mother eats is very crucial. The mother must essentially be given a lot of milk, fresh fruits and vegetables. Light meat and fish will help. Fatty foods may be kept at bay at this stage.
